From the Quote Box

Nothing is as real as a dream. The world can change around you, but your dream will not. Responsibilities need not erase it. Duties need not obscure it. Because the dream is within you, no one can take it away. — Tom Clancy

#napowrimo day 4

9.

People don’t walk much
They drive around so fast
They see the trees whiz by
They miss us completely.
If we could show you
this garden by the road
you’d know how grand the world
and how we tend it
If you’d just walk this way.

10.

When the spring comes
so much to do, so much to do
you clean your house
and I clean mine.
I shake out the lilies
and brush out the grass.
I roll back the pinecones,
stir up the ground,
sprinkle some seeds
and wait for the rain.

#NaPoWriMo Day 3 bonus round

6.

They say we steal babies
but honestly
they’s bad ones everywhere
We don’t steal babies.
We love them.
We see you love yours
as our mothers loved us.
Do you hear your babe laugh
when we tickle her chin?
Your son tells us a tale
while stacking his blocks.
We’ve watched over your parents
and you and now yours.
You’re needing no fear.

7.

At night I sneak out of the cupboard
to look for a drink.
I have to wait for the faucet to drip.
I find a crumb to nibble,
A nut under the table.
I look in on your babies
so sweet in their cribs.
I look in on you dreaming,
wondering why you can’t
spare a pity for us
so while I’m thinking
of your sweet granddad
who never forgot us,
I tie a few knots in your hair.
Then I take a sock.

Happy Tuesday

Today it was back to work. I planned to do writing at lunch. I got ready and found – no wallet. I knew I’d had it when I stopped for coffee on the way to work so 99% sure it was in the car. Went out to the car and there it was but that was a chunk of time so I went to Starbucks and got a coffee and packaged lunch and sat down to use the little bit of time I had left.

Opened up the NaNoWriMo, read the last paragraph and started typing. And laughing. Yes that’s right. There I was, sitting in the window of Starbucks laughing out loud because of the silliness in the words that I’d put onto the screen. Poor Matt the male protagonist. Protagonist is not a word I use to think of him but you know. Being able to laugh at an event that’s going to change the course of things is good.

So, I didn’t write for as long as I’d hoped but… there’s a great quote from a Pat and Mike a classic Hepburn/Tracy movie: “Not much meat on her, but what’s there is cherce.” That’s how I felt about that shortened lunch hour.

NaPoWriMo Day 3

I had a quiet day. I didn’t work on quilting or NaNoWriMo (that thing which needs a title). Had some time with my folks and spent some time thinking. Early bed tonight because it sure didn’t happen last night!

4.

We visit nightly
a quiet stop
after dancing.
We brush your hair
from your sleeping eyes.
We sing softly in
the moments before the
dawn lights the dew,
the stanzas not remembered.
We leave a flower,
a feather,
a stone.
while your cat watches.

5.

When I wake
I take the small saucer from the sill.
I wash my hands
I thank those who guard the kitchen yard.
A bird flashes past the window
The kettle begins to chatter
On the table is a feather
blue as the sky
soft as the wind
I put it in a bowl
above the sink.
The cat sits in the doorway
watching.
