#NaPoWriMo2012 Day 7! One week!

14.

We work our magic
small miracles
or common pleasures.
Small surprises
but satisfying.
We watch.
We see your eyes look again
your lips an “O”
but without sound.
Your fingers touch again
and perhaps again.
Look away and back.
What is your answer?
What your explanation?
You know the answer.
You know how to explain.
Say the words aloud.

Day Six, bonus round #napowrimo2012

I know I know – I couldn’t help myself.

13.

Tonight’s the night to dance
The moon leaping up
opposite the red glowing sky
as the fire sinks
into the shadowed hills.
The bright lady rises with grace
sliding above the trees
doing a slow stately dance all her own
the one we’ve watched for lifetimes.
Our own dance more earthbound,
hand in hand, round the ring
round and round
Singing, laughing, living
in each moment
of the world’s turning.

Sixth Day of #NaPoWriMo2012

I have my days confused. I am confused. But here I am. Last night I tried some new software out to create a small site for the side project but it was pretty much a failure software-wise.The quick and dirty and amusing banner via Pages was ok though – it made me laugh.

The Gnomic Saga

And now without further ado, day 6:

12.

The cat, orange and striped
The black one, sleek and dark
They watch.
They saw me come into the yard.
We sit, them on the sunny sill
Me, on the cool sink edge
We sit, watching each other
Calmly. Nothing to prove.
We see how it is, all of us.
The black cat stretches and
tucks his small feet under him.
He pretends to take no notice
but I feel his eyes.
The other makes no pretense,
waiting for me to move
flicking an ear
noting my passage from
sink to table to shelf.
The mistress comes in with a teacup
“You two – doing nothing again?
Go outside!”
and sweeps them out the door.

#NaPoWriMo2012 Day 5

Today’s prompt from NaPoWriMo was:

This may not mean a lot to some of you, but today is Opening Day! For me, this means that rhythm and sanity are about to return to the world after the bleak, baseball-free months of winter…So, how about a poem in honor of Opening Day

whether about sports or the return of something that has been absent, like school.

This fit right in with the wad of ideas I’ve been rolling around. Perfect. So here’s my start, but I think I’ll be fiddling with it some more:

11.

Whether you thought we’d gone,
never believed that
we were here with you
or let go of the hope
you kept of knowing,
We’ve always been here.
You’d only to allow us in,
like finding a necklace
long-forgotten in a drawer,
the unknown sadness swept
by the fullness of joy,
to see it again
in its sparkling remembrance.
That joy, momentary and sweet,
but we remain with you always.

Fourth day of #napowrimo2012 – taking a breath

I might have bitten off more than I should. Or maybe it was a spurt of over-achieving, multi-focal whatever. I found myself writing several short poems each of the past days (not so bad) and then this side project (that is ridiculously enormous) and meanwhile eking out a bit of time to push ahead the NaNoWriMo (the thing that needs a title).

My brain kind of went klunk tonight.

I’m going to get a tall glass of water and sit down and think about a plan for the rest of the month. I looked over last year’s NaPoWriMo and it wasn’t so bad. The main difference being that I was working between two sources of prompts and filling in the blanks with my own idea or a haiku or two, but one poem a day.

So maybe – ONE short poem a day (part of a series) and the enormously ridiculous side project (which would be ridiculously amazing if it works out) and moving ever onward to the end of the NaNoWriMo project (which is seriously making me giggle on most days. That’s not so bad a plan.

And now to bed.
