6.
They say we steal babies
but honestly
they’s bad ones everywhere
We don’t steal babies.
We love them.
We see you love yours
as our mothers loved us.
Do you hear your babe laugh
when we tickle her chin?
Your son tells us a tale
while stacking his blocks.
We’ve watched over your parents
and you and now yours.
You’re needing no fear.
7.
At night I sneak out of the cupboard
to look for a drink.
I have to wait for the faucet to drip.
I find a crumb to nibble,
A nut under the table.
I look in on your babies
so sweet in their cribs.
I look in on you dreaming,
wondering why you can’t
spare a pity for us
so while I’m thinking
of your sweet granddad
who never forgot us,
I tie a few knots in your hair.
Then I take a sock.
