Scary things that swim

I couldn’t find the link someone posted of the lady attacked while swimming somewhere on the coast of New Jersey by a monstrous being. The event scarred her for life.

Tonight i am reading a bit more Mabinogion and wonder how to pronounce Addanc. So of course, I look it up and Wikipedia says:

The Afanc (Welsh pronunciation: [?avank], sometimes also called Addanc, [?aðank]) is a lake monster from Welsh mythology. Its exact description varies; it is described variously as resembling a crocodile, beaver or dwarf-like creature, and is sometimes said to be a demon. The lake in which it dwells also varies; it is variously said to live in Llyn Llion, Llyn Barfog, near Brynberian Bridge or in Llyn yr Afanc, a lake near Betws-y-Coed that was named after the creature.

Just sayin’.

A mixed medley of #haiku

a shawl of paisley
a swirl of thoughts beneath stars
sending out my love.

The day’s heat rose up
a wave overtaking night
whose sky drinks it up.

I push many squares
join each with thread to the next
watching it all grow.

The old tales I read
repeat each bold encounter
so we’ll remember.

Listen to the birds;
as night comes in the crickets
take the song again.

In the backyard dark
the moment of first firefly
summer has arrived.

how many squares?

It’s seriously best not to think about questions like that but I’m close to being halfway through the middle section which, yes, puts me almost halfway through sewing the columns. There was a bit of a dither while I tried to figure out what to do with the light/dark mix for sewing thread. I went with a medium green/olive color.

Oh the weighty decisions to be made!

Warcraft friends, miss you!

WoW friends you’ve been in my thoughts a lot the past week. Miss you, miss chatting with you. If any of you are still visitors here, drop me a line and say hi?

Off? It’s all relative

It’s ok, go ahead and say it: “She’s been off for years.”

I’m not working at the day job today but I’m piled up with things to do. I should clean out the fridge (will do that tomorrow to sync with trash day), could do any amount of cleaning, could, should, could, should.

This reminds me of the photo meme that was going around for all different factions or groups: what my parents think I do, what my friends think I do, what my boss thinks I do, what I am think I am doing, what I am really doing… LOL yeah it is sort of like that.

In reality, I’m going to finish my coffee and push a bit on this quilt. It’s at a point where if I get a chunk more done it will start to look like something and that’s always encouraging. (As long as it does actually start to look like something, of course.)

So that’s the plan for awhile.

And for those wondering where my normal progress photos are. I may change my mind on this, but as others have blogged (and here), there’s a strange no-man’s land bounded by show requirements, the ability of others to post your photos to social networks and the urge to share one’s progress on one’s own blog.

I may have to stick with mysterious in-progress photos that don’t hint at the whole, so bear with me.
