New Page of Links

Some of you are familiar with my links up there above “Other Links”. Now if you click there, you’ll see a sub-menu of Quilt National Exhibitors thanks to Paula Kovarik who suggested a bit of link exchanging. So if you’re looking for some eye-candy and peeks into the lives of other quilters, give that list a try.

Saturday, half-time

Halfway through a closing shift at work. They’re uncommon for me but I was asked if I could switch with a co-worker and it turns out I could, so I did. So this morning I rose and dutifully made coffee and a bit of breakfast and sat down and winged some squares through the machine but it’s always with an eye on the clock if you’re waiting to go to work. I did get a couple three columns sewn, leaving just one more to go on the first third of it.

Just as I was doing the last minute things before going out the door the phone rang and another co-worker was telling me that the patroon bridge was basically just bumper to bumper and very little movement. He and another had been there for awhile. I looked online and couldn’t find anything about it and there hadn’t been any warning signs during the week but 35 min later it was me stuck in the same thing. They basically took four lanes of traffic and made it merge to one. Yeah.

So tonight a very late night and then tomorrow’s an off day. The joys of retail.

Thousands or More

I have a memory of a morning at Pinewoods where a group rose up early and walked around singing an early wake up call. I don’t remember the songs but this is one heard round camp over the years. (curse my lack of folk song knowledge and leaky brain)

The time passes over more cheerful and gay
Since we’ve learnt a new act to drive sorrows away
Sorrows away, sorrows away, sorrows away
Since we’ve learnt a new act to drive sorrows away.

Bright Phoebe awakes so high in the sky
With her red rosy cheeks and her sparkaling eye
Sparkaling eye, sparkaling eye, sparkaling eye
With her red rosy cheeks and her sparkaling eye.

If you ask for my credit you’ll find I have none
With my bottle and friends you will find me at home
Find me at home, find me at home, find me at home
With my bottle and friends you will find me at home.

Although I’m not rich and although I’m not poor
I’m as happy as those that’s got thousands or more
Thousands or more, thousands or more, thousands or more
I’m as happy as those that’s got thousands or more.

Silly and Fun to the Rescue

Last night I really struggled with getting into the flow of sewing. I know that’s not uncommon in the process but I really was looking forward to just sitting there pushing pairs of squares through the sewing machine. At one point I blurted out to the cyberspheres that I was bored and needed new music. (And in my defense, part of the non-standard-listening-stuff that I’d already listened to was “The Man Who Forgot Ray Bradbury“)

Anyway, my bud Holly wrote back suggesting it was all about “Their Brains Were Small and They Died”, so I went scrolling through my iTunes and queued up a shuffled version of my Silly and Fun playlist. ahhhh. Familiar but most of it made me laugh and sing along. All good.

Looking upon the snow

“…for I was thinking of the lady whom I love best, and thus was she brought to my mind: — I was looking upon the snow, and upon the raven, and upon the drops of the blood of the bird that the hawk had killed upon the snow. And I bethought me that her whiteness was like that of the snow, and that the blackness of her hair and her eyebrows like that of the raven, and that the two red spots upon her cheek were like the two drops of blood.”
