An Oops with a good ending – looking at art

I wanted to post the presence of the Quilt National Quilts in Berea KY to SAQA – Studio Art Quilters Association, a quilt group I belong to. Somehow in the process of doing that I included the English Country Dance email list in my email. I got an email that the ECD list owner was going to review my email and either email me or post it, so I figured that was the end of it – no harm.

I got an email of congrats from someone on that list and then a request from someone I know there asking for photos. Surprised the email had been sent through I sent along a link to the full and detail images of Solveig. I know the gentleman is on the far left coast but he does some travelling around to teach and call dancing.

Awhile later I got the nicest email with a big Wow and a very brief but most excellent critique/commenting on my quilt. Knocked my socks off actually. A list of five points as to what he liked about it, things he found in it design-wise, a few things about the design and about the construction. I knew he’d really looked and thought about it and responded.

As creators of art – just doesn’t get much better than that. Seriously. I thanked him and I want to thank everyone who takes the time to consider and ponder and maybe even talk to the makers of art. We do love it.

Driveway #haiku

Sitting in the car
Rain percussing on the roof
Perfectly between.

Long day is behind.
Rainy night beats on the car.
The cats wait inside.

Day Off #Haiku

Fine day or deadline
bright sun or getting it done
I stand on the porch.

The day grows quiet
The air settles on the ground
the sky flows to dark

That thoughts do matter
brings mine to an open door
to let a love in.

Birds squawk and flutter
They squall and hop on the wires
scolding cat below.

Heroic Questing

There have been times in my life when I battled giant bugs, or dragons or mages gone evilly wrong. I would summon all my powers and resources and figure out ways to cut them down for the good of the world and those in it.

Today I mowed a bit of the lawn and then decided I’d take a whack at the dog rose gone evilly wrong in the one front garden. So hard to kill. Even if you knock it down to the ground it springs up again forcing out through the trunk and sending up from its roots. Just like the undead or the crazed power hungering of the blood mages.

Anyway I waded in and took out a huge pile of canes. The size of the pile surprised me a lot. And now I’m left wondering what the heck to do with those very grabby and sharp things. It’s probably a good cubic yard of stuff.

While I was hacking away at this invader, it fought back of course, and even the roses I was trying to defend, a lovely medium pink moss rose that came with the house (a few straggling bits of it) reached out and grabbed me. More than I thought since I not only had to dig a few thorns out of fingers but my right arm is covered with red welts. I don’t believe it could be anything other than scratch urticaria but thee you go – I’m red and rashy. At least it’s not itchy.
