Remembering

Today: clear blue sky overhead, cool and crisp, everything glistening with sun. So much like that morning in 2001. That morning when my folks and I were getting ready to spend the day with friends, we had no idea the world was about to change.

The world has continued, shaped by petty-minded people, good-hearted people and people of all types. Many strive to use the fear and ignorance in the hearts of others to achieve their own ends.

We each must remember the moments before the first plane hit the World Trade Center and the first minutes of that horrific day – to remember the pain of loss, the disbelief that any human being would take that kind of action against others, the lesson on the meaning of terrorism. We must hold onto the desire for peace, and the right of all to live a peaceful life. We must be purposefully tolerant and accepting and just as purposeful in our rejection of behavior that is otherwise – both in ourselves and others. We must speak out against fear-mongering and bigotry.

Let each of us stand as a tower of remembrance and peace in the world today.

after a splatter of rain

It wasn’t much more than a few splatters either – enough that I’d wake up a bit and wonder if it was raining but by the time I’d really come to it had stopped. The roof didn’t look wet, the sun was shining. Sleep and then more rain-like sounds.

It was raining though, in little sploshes. By the time I hit the front porch to go to work, the sun was out again but the sky was full of dark and fast-moving clouds.

Which brings me to my thought – that just a little rain brings about a big change in how things look.

Like with most things, adding some darkness brings out the color and light and makes the whole thing more interesting, less flat. Dark roads, dark ground, darker leaves. Popped greens, brilliant skies, bigger range of colors, zingy accents. Look for it!

The big picture

I was driving back from FedEx and had this flash of how the big picture looks. I couldn’t really put it into visuals… so I’ll try to do my best in mushy words

The big picture:

  • Big mushy undefined space with not much going on it it. Maybe a little free-floating-anxiety surrounded by big areas of not much going on.
  • Tiny cracks of a glimmer of a thought.
  • Maybe a small sketch or two.
  • The darkness splits – A plan!
  • More notes. More pondering. A brief return to mushiness.
  • Work begins. Lot of light and focus although much night-time activity.
  • As the thing shapes up, and the finishing point is in the distance, time distortion. This is light bending caused by the feeling on the one hand that the end will never come versus the feeling that the deadline is tomorrow. All seasoned with a soupçon of “what if I get run over by a bus?!”
  • Eventually the thing is done, photographed, documented on forms. Forms dutifully sent with attached checks, photos, CDs, promises to serve and honor…. whatever.
  • All that continual compression and clarity brings us to
  • Walking out of FedEx empty-handed.
  • Done is done.

The rest, as they say, is waiting around.

Gak! Deadlines and undead!

Another night of messing around taking pictures of quilt. I need a bigger space but I finally found something that works. I would have liked a picture of me doing what it took to get the job done.

As a reward for getting that figured out, I spent some quality time killing scourge in Northrend. Met some nice folks and had such a good time (healer to tank: “you should take off some gear so this is less boring”) with the one group that we ran another dungeon together. In the second one the tank did multiple pulls, I obliged by misdirecting onto him, and we all ran like heck to keep up and have mana. Whew. But it sure was fun!
