Early afternoon haiku

I put away some green fabrics and pulled out the drawer with brown strips and squares and looked them over. I think I have to start with the pieced squares though.

Meanwhile, continuing haiku for World Poetry Day

Where to start? The new •
fabrics stacked, strips, squares await. •
Ready to sew squares?

The moment of starting •
The loss of potential looms •
falling to the act.

XVIIII. Mage Haiku
The warrior laughed •
at the mage’s fine haiku. •
thus, was he ported.

XIX. Mage Haiku
Shaman whined, ‘Haiku?’ •
Mage said, ‘Travel alone then.’ •
Then, absence of mage.

Remember that this sort of started with haiku slams in Azeroth – you can see all the early Mage Haiku under the Haiku link above.

Haiku, s’more

How right that Twitter

March twenty-first, huh?
#haiku #worldpoetryday #hashtag (today is also the anniversary of the first tweet sent, aka Twitter’s birthday)

I see birches bent down
I recite the words as I drive
Thank you Robert Frost.

The world’s poetry
we share year-round and today.
Reading, writing: you.

Let the haiku roll! World Poetry Day

Sounds like sushi, eh? Haiku roll, get it? oops haiku humor.

First haiku of the day, newest on top:

coffee, second cup
the world’s news casts a darkness.
strive to blow it away.

haiku version of Oxford request: job related poem. They wanted a rhyming one which I did in a non-haiku form.

teach technology
it’s what I do, try I can
happiness to man

Dug through stacks of stash,
piled up pitiful browns,
and rare, perfect gems.

speaking poetry
the language of the world wide
the web between us.

Interesting stuff

I’m ironing the fabrics I pulled out of several bins. All browns, and reddish-browns, blackish-browns, and all. There are old old things and very new things.

There are a couple pieces of fabric in there that I love in an unexplainable way.

World’s worst photos of browns (color balance is really funky):

Things found while rummaging

I have a surprisingly small number of dark brown fabrics.

Even stranger – where did all the off-white/light tan stuff come from?

Side effects of rummaging:

  • found some long-lost skydyes and other mushy color stuff. This stuff defies putting into a single color bin.
  • have a desire to go through the couple of bins of multi-color stuff in hopes of getting rid of stuff unlikely to get cut up
  • have a desire to go through the couple of bins of multi-color stuff and cutting up stuff and sorting the squares appropriately.
  • found a bunch of purplish fabrics and wondered why they were in with the browns (probably lack of space.
  • Threw a few pieces into “large enough for backing” or “not on a bet – I mean, maybe you would like this?” piles
  • If I can make enough of a dint putting fabric in right bins, will briefly ruffle through silk bags to check for dark browns
