Welcome Cat Cam Visitors!

I heard that the kitties might be getting some extra visitors today – I told them to be extra photogenic. They pretended not to hear me. Hope there’s some action for you.

Here’s a link to the page about The Cat Cam.

One update on the techno-side: I switched back to my original iSight camera, for old times sake. The newer camera was having a hard time adjusting to all the bright sunlight so I subbed it out until I can figure another position for the camera where it’s less likely to get clobbered by the afternoon light.

So that’s what a Fiat looks like!

I don’t often get to see myself in my car, so when my brother Mike sent me this pic of me and the Fiat, I figured I’d share it!

Good night Haiku

Evening darkly
creeping tucks into corners
all quiets and stills.

that rare time of year
moment of air perfection
we’re one with the sky.

If I sleep and dream
I hope it is of you, love
coming to meet me.

One, someone like me,
on the world’s other side,
is writing a poem.

I look at the sky
thinking of those who stand
looking at the sky.

Looking up, we know
we gaze together; we share
this sun, blue, night, stars.

Imagine a sky
Flashing with words, beats and rhymes
World Poetry Day

Midnight sits near by
syllables and I are spent
writing done, sleep well.

We interrupt World Poetry Day…

…for a brief quilting announcement. I poked around at fabric for a good part of the day. I compared strips and squares on hand to the pile of brown fabric that I ironed. Most of what I’d ironed I had some stuff pre-cut. No problem with that. I really wanted to start laying that out but ha! that’s a little hard to do when the center portion has to be made first.

That led me to the next crisis. I really had started down one road of pre-building fabric of a gazillion small strips to cut squares out of. Nasty work and not really the result I wanted. I had early on thought about doing the squares on a foundation but that seemed like a LOT of bulk for such small pieces. I suppose it’s possible to use a tear away material (there’d be a LOT of tearing…). We’ll see.

So I sat down and had a little blank spot of not having a clue. Never a good thing.

Tonight after dinner I picked up my box of bright green squares and the pile of little strips and I’m doing some test piecing. That’s all I can do I guess. Sometimes the image is clearer than others, and sometimes there’s a gap between what it looks like in your head and how you can make that happen.

Well, not going to worry about it at the moment until the test pieces are done.

Late Afternoon Haiku

Afternoon ahead
stretches with many options
First I’ll sip my tea.

A block of sharp cheese
Some crackers, salty and crisp
to stave off dinner.

The phone is ringing.
The voice unhuman goes on.
Hang up, but on whom?

no rhyme? no problem
no rhythm? no worries there.
Just write it all down.

(above is my response to @neilhimself who wrote: Tried to write a funny tweet that rhymed about sending Roller Derby TeamUSA to the White House t.co/595OH1wN #worldpoetrydayfail )

Indecisiveness.
The afternoon is weighted,
awaiting a sign.

words emerging black
from keyboard to open screen
today’s blank white sheet.

Fingers pause while brain
rummages for what comes next
then blurts out to screen.

Time to do something
that isn’t just pretending
To do something else.
