Today’s prompt from NaPoWriMo was:
This may not mean a lot to some of you, but today is Opening Day! For me, this means that rhythm and sanity are about to return to the world after the bleak, baseball-free months of winter…So, how about a poem in honor of Opening Day
whether about sports or the return of something that has been absent, like school.
This fit right in with the wad of ideas I’ve been rolling around. Perfect. So here’s my start, but I think I’ll be fiddling with it some more:
11.
Whether you thought we’d gone,
never believed that
we were here with you
or let go of the hope
you kept of knowing,
We’ve always been here.
You’d only to allow us in,
like finding a necklace
long-forgotten in a drawer,
the unknown sadness swept
by the fullness of joy,
to see it again
in its sparkling remembrance.
That joy, momentary and sweet,
but we remain with you always.
