Day 15 #NaPoWriMo2012

There must be a deep-seated need for a tax day related poem so here it goes. But then the next one is in keeping with this year’s theme.

23.

is there a levy
due to some unknown agency
charged with counting
the lonely nights?
For each night, for each day
the price tallied
the record entered
the yearly total due.
Write the check
write off another year
feel the nothingness
that is so highly taxed. 15 april 2012

24.

In my vest pocket,
there’s a pinch
of sparkly dust,
something to
sweeten your dreams
if you are wrapped
with the cloak of night.
In my watch pocket
a tiny wrapped packet
some leaves, a feather,
a small bit of snow
(no not snow, fire!)
and a single whisker.
If it dangled from
the golden thread
near your own locket
you would look
into my eyes
and I would have
no power at all.
and I would gaze long
if you would but
open your eyes.
Wake! Ask me to
unravel your dreams
and look at me
while I lose
myself to you.
I put it in your hand
while I attend
your dreams
and wait for you
to wake.

do it

I think it’s come to either: do it the hard way or move on.

Of the two designs my eye keeps getting drawn to, one is barely easier but requires starting over, pretty much while the other seems to have no trick ways about it and requires just a lot of piecing.

The latter is a dream-of-mine-to-make-some-day but I don’t really have a whole image of it in mind yet. The other one I “see” the whole thing but not how the details play out.

Gack.

Meanwhile the epic haiku and daily poem are actually helping nudge the NaNoWriMo thing ahead a bit, if only by making me want to glob time (that I don’t really have) on it.

Funniest thing of the week: someone suggested I should go back to gaming just so I could play some WIN-only game I’ve never heard of. OK then.

Closing #haiku

Out in the driveway
Stars and planets up above
porch light welcomes me

endless tone and beat
i’m no longer afraid of
you, oh philip glass

I hear you speaking
the words opening your love
your eyes speaking more

Tonic and orange
coldly beads the glass without
the ice held within

Day 14 #NaPoWriMo2012

This still needs some tinkering. Somehow the ideas I had in the car on the way home were gone when I was ready to type, LOL. But here’s my response to NaPoWriMo’s suggestion to write a fourteen line sonnet for day fourteen:

22.

The fair lad who wooed me held out his hands
bearing a flower that flew off, a dove.
He gave me a star washed up on the sands
and said he’d set it in the night skies above.
He drew two hearts for me in the sky
and braided bright flowers for my hair
He saw my destined lover in my eye
and set a bower of leafy moss for my chair.
He drew an invisible cloak about me
but it was his arm around me, warm and strong
He sat beside me then to watch the endless sea
and said his love would be mine forever long.
He said all his love is mine to keep and treasure
Our days full of sun, our nights full of pleasure.

And today’s prompt

Even though I’ve got an over-arching theme that I’m trying to write within (in an evil-plotted-effort to help out on the NaNoWriMo side of things) I’m still checking out the NaPoWriMo prompts and sometimes look at others I see posted. There are quite a number of poetry sites that post little ideas or forms for people to try, just to stir the pot or to offer a lifeline to someone who is stuck for a starting point.

Today’s from NaPoWriMo.net is quite good – broad, lots of background info about the form and freedom to do what you like. Not too hard, not too easy, just (write) right!

So, for our fourteenth day of NaPoWriMo, go forth and write something with fourteen lines. Pose a problem and resolve it, address a fair lady (or man), and rhyme or not as you please. The sonnet is both tight and expansive — it can accommodate you! Have at it, and take your place in a long and continuing line.

Putting on thinking cap while finishing my lunch.
