Haikus for the end of day

supernatural
seven syllables in a line
cupped by five, each end.

woke up this morning
cats sitting all in a line
their breakfast awaits.

my mind was ruffled
by silly internet stuff
calmed by many seams.

a pile of small squares
sewn and cut and sewn and cut
ironing between.

Barely raining night
heavy air is full and thick
rather than puddles.

the smallest, black cat
bundled waves she runs ahead
tip of tail, curving

And the envelope says… start truing up

According to my numeric scratchings on the back of an envelope (and here you thought I inscribed all this in beautiful calligraphy in a leather-bound tome… sorry)

anyway. My tally says that I have 277 squares made which are laying there needing truing up. This means I may still need a few more squares but I’ll probably start sticking them up on the wall first to see how the colors and values are playing out.

That’s the plan anyway.

Day off

Was glad to sleep in a little this morning. I could have gotten up, done stuff, done grocery shopping, etc etc etc but a couple hours of sleep felt good.

I finally put my foot down on myself after fortification with coffee and went up to the sewing room. Hooked up the mighty MacBook Pro to the speakers and listened to the end of Ironside: A Modern Faery’s Tale by Holly Black. It was all right, with a few twists and turns at the end. I was listening with half an ear to hear how much descriptive stuff there was and truth is, I heard little. Unfortunately what I did hear were some rather trite phrases. Stuff like that makes me feel nervous about my own writing LOL but at least I can be aware of it.

While listening to all those words I finished 65 small squares and started the rest which turned out to be 95 of them. I had to cut a few more small strip choices in order to make the mix better. Now I’m off to sew phase two of the piecing of them. It goes pretty quickly once I get it going.

Meh

Meh. Don’t want to think about this any more so I’m taking my drink and going to crawl into bed and read some 13th century Welsh stories. Take that! OK, not so scary, huh?
