light bulb mirage

The light bulb flickered tentatively over her head, or was it a distant mirage shimmering up from the heat?

LOL well whatev’. I had this rare lucid moment and packed a frozen water bottle into my insulated lunch box and brought it into the sewing room to bail me out in awhile. Til later folks. Stay tuned for bobbin updates.

Mahler not your thing? Pibroch #haiku?

Can’t say the rummaging isn’t wide-ranging and diverse!

I’m going to say at the start that pibroch is a matter of much laughter in my heart. To me,

Pibroch is properly expressed by minute and often subtle variations in note duration and tempo.”

often makes me ask, “is that recording stuck?” Just saying.

This sentence

In the absence of concrete documentary evidence, the origins of pibroch have taken on a quasi-mythic status…

brought to mind, not pibroch, but that song “you’re a legend in your own mind.” But seriously, I can appreciate the form, just not long periods of it. Give me a nice rant or reel any day.

minute and subtle
musical variation
pibroch for bagpipe

pibroch origins:
quasi-mythic in status
notation sketchy.

How many #haiku?

Walking back from lunch today I was thinking, “good to have writing time.” I often feel that way lately when I’m deeply involved in a quilting project, as I am now.

My next thought though was scarier, as I wondered: how many haiku have I written in the past year? That would take some too much time to tally up so I’ll just say: a lot. Hopefully not so many as to be scary or perhaps enough good and/or funny ones to make the quantity worthwhile!

Variations on #Mahler No. 2 #haiku

be resurrected
find your footing after rest
find yourself stronger

all things shall perish
if only to be reborn
immortality.

Life gathers all up
the inhalation of time
and breathes life anew

While rummaging for something else, I encountered this youtube video of the NY Philharmonic’s performance of Mahler’s second symphony in 2011, in remembrance of September 11, 2001, which led me to looking up the beautiful lyrics.

Or maybe it was the other way around. Such is the way of rummaging.

we’ve all been asked that question…

Carla Sonheim passed along a link to Karine’s blog and it is worth passing along here too! Who hasn’t been asked that question: how long did that take you?

Part of your heart sags: why does it matter? is that the only measure of value, or perhaps my skill? Am I too slow? Or too fast?

Mostly these days I just shrug and if I feel a need to answer, I let “all my life” roll right off my lips. (I learned long ago that rehearsed answers are often quite handy!)
