I heard a wave of rain come, with big plops of water beating on the roof near my window. I went downstairs and through the front door. Up and down the street, no light seemed to be coming from any of the houses. The rain fell unseen, with drops ricocheting up on my shins from the porch steps.

I stuck a hand out and, taking my glasses off, wiped the rain over my face. It wasn’t quite cool, but sweet after the oppressive day. The darkness was filled with the soft sound and the sky was lighter above my head.

As the sound moved away, the air barely moved and the odor of moistened earth came up to meet me in the dark. Long-summer tales of young boys and Indiana towns came with it and I filled up on the fine, wet smell before going back into the dark cooling house.

It was much hotter than this for sure today.

I noticed the cats were all slinking around and I went out to see what was going on. The thunder was all apparently distant but the sky was a bizarre color and the layers of clouds were going in different directions.

I went to look up using the More tag (still haven’t quite figured it out, and I thought I had used it before but apparently not) and found a treasure trove of good advice under, go figure, a help link right on the dashboard page. I’m often asked about how to set up a blog and the questions are many and wide-ranging.

There are lots of things to think about when setting up a web site or blog but it’s not all about the computer and web hosting. What are you really setting out to do? Why, talk to your viewers, that’s what! What are you going to talk about?

I’ll confess that the blogs I read faithfully are those that are all about the writer and their life and work. You have to be mightily informational to get me over to a site feeding links of news, technology and other sites. The blogs that are in my “Other Sites” list aren’t all wildly up to date, in fact there are a few there because I hope the writers will return. They do all share a definite point of view, distinct interests and a parcel of personality.
