NaPoWriMo Day Twenty

Now you might ask, but MB – I didn’t see Day Nineteen?

And you would be right. Every month-o-poems, there’s a chance that a poem might be just a little too personal, a little too pointed , a little too specific. While I might think the words themselves are good, bad or indifferent, I choose not to put the poems out there in public. So yes, there was a poem, safe in the files, but just not here.

Today was quite the day wasn’t it? I just had to think about who might be out there not waiting anxiously for this verdict. I’m sure there must be some out there who have hardened their thoughts against the idea of change. For them I send up a universal prayer to allow them relief.

In the hour so so we waited
weren’t we holding our breaths?
I wondered about those who
weren’t hoping for justice
weren’t praying for the right answer
to this terrible question.
For those I send up a prayer
because if it had gone the other way
we would have kept on fighting
for rights, for equality,
for everyone, and I hope
they feel as relieved as
we do with the verdict
even if they can’t say it aloud.

the tension released
announcing justice today
I feel hope rising

I went to the post office but they were closed for lunch so I went for a little ride and discovered the Beaver Cotton Mill Overlook in downtown Valatie. The mill was founded in 1820 and was destroyed by fire in the blizzard of 1888.

NaPoWriMo Day 18 Mea Culpa

Because who really knows what time or day it is? Obviously not this girl! In my defense I had a moment of – look at you going to bed early!

what day is today
was there no poem yesterday
life is confusing

if you forget sleep
one day is one day, all one
words run together

then there’s the moment
of wondering what is now
and what yesteray

today in garden
above a familiar call
is fast approaching

through the birch branches
a canadian goose honks
today is today

yesterday is gone
except in memory now
don’t waste time weeping

time and poems tangled
was there no yesterday then
if there was no poem

NaPoWriMo Day Seventeen – National Haiku Day

I was thinking about some of the things that were just setting in last year – changes at work, figuring out grocery shopping etc.

year that slipped away
isolation fell like snow
to weirding quiet

often day’s high point
lunch taken from the front steps
with the birch and birds

in the confusion
the days where much was unknown
the daily felt safe.

also had a nice moment of recalling the first two cats – here they are in 1985 photo as babies – Maggie and Bill

NaPoWriMo Day Sixteen

I had a bunch of time on my hands this morning – and into the afternoon – and among other things thought about tomorrow being National Haiku Day. So let’s just say I got an early start…

I remain on hold
despite the incompetence
of those I speak with.

You transferred me and
thought the problem was solved but
I am still on hold

soothing hold music
followed by ‘will you please hold’
becomes annoyance

you try to distract
with a different service
but to no avail

yes we all agree
that you have no ability
to assist me here

Despite your answer
I request to be transferred
to one who can help.

in between people
i try focussing on hope
to shake off anger.

NaPoWriMo Day Fifteen

Rainy, temperature dropping, a day to appreciate gray.

there is no surprise
on this April day
trees softening
pink green gold red
against the grey
blurring against the rain
all is quiet
A flash of sky
startles all to green.

Tree tops blur to sky
burst against clouds pink red gold
shining in sunlight
