Miscellaneous Things Seen in the Sewing Room

zomg is that a second gnome running loose in the sewing room?

second gnome?

Oh, no, guess not. It’s the machine oil…

Earlier today I bought these because they looked like the right size to help store and move 2″ squares and they are AND they were 50% off which made them about $1.25 each.

Black Dog Database

Mark Norman is compiling a database of accounts of sightings of Black Dogs** and will be very pleased if people can send contributions to m.norman@exeter.ac.uk.

Now you know where to report them, ok? via The Folklore Society

These black dogs, not black labs…

A similar beast was alluded to earlier in my NaNoWriMo story, lying in wait for a baby to die. He left unsatisfied.

Sunday Morning Gift

G.B. Trudeau is returning to Sunday-only new cartoons for awhile apparently. I think it’s an evil plot to allow Alex a full nine months of gestating the pending twins but the published reason is that he’s working on another project…

But, if you don’t go to the Doonesbury page often, it’s a source for an interesting selection of videos.

This one was an especial gift, alongside the first new cartoon in months.

Did you miss me?

I’ve been hunting myths and legends in the mountains of central Wales. Well, virtually anyway. While it might have been for naught – perhaps I hallucinated that brilliant tie in between the Black Mountain and the King of Fairies or other notable players of Welsh Mythology – it has given my brain a bit of space to think on the resolution of my story.

So I guess it’s a good thing.

I also received a wonderful package of fragrances from Demeter Fragrances. In addition to my order roll-on perfume oils of:

  • Grass
  • Rain
  • Honeysuckle
  • Wisteria
  • Linden
  • Firefly

there was a bonus bottle of spray-on cologne titled: Frozen Margarita. Fresh and Limey as you might imagine.

The Linden was my “oh what the heck” item in the mix and it was just as wonderful as some reviewers claimed – softly fruity and wonderfully floral. Smells like soft and red which isn’t anything like what I know about linden flowers.

You dear reader might instead be wondering about the last item, Firefly. If they could bottle that night air that is just the right temperature and humidity, with the night dew coming on over the newly cut grass and planted garden and wait – there’s the first firefly – this would be it.

Yeah yeah yeah, you thought it was going to be something about Nathan Fillion… well that would be good too. Maybe out there, sitting in the early summery twilight, sharing Frozen Margaritas

Word of the Day

I had an idea for a particular thing in my NaNoWriMo novel. About a particular important place. It even gets alluded to in dialogue. I need the specifics again but where are the notes? the bookmarks?

I may not be the world’s most careful researcher but I am pretty darn good at making a note into a general file or at the very least bookmarking the bits that are useable. Of course in this case I am not quite sure what it would be called so I’m having to review quite a slew of sites. this by itself isn’t too bad because it’s filling my brain with all this good stuff again. But where oh where is that one piece of geographical/historical/legendary stuff that I knew about. I even remember that it was a funny little aha moment where several different legends and ideas converged in an odd way.

well it is fiction so I guess I could make it up if I don’t find it (shhhh you didn’t hear that here!)

Meanwhile, the word of the day is

Psychopomp.

Have fun with it.
