Sit Back
In those few moments
when the sky explodes,
not nightly
but just often enough,
cars pull over
cameras get lifted
people stop for a moment
to look. They pause.
In those few moments
the earth doesn’t
matter much at all
except as bleacher seating
for the best light show,
well, on earth.
Day 22 — NaPoWriMo — Belated Earth Day
Surprise! From the Quote Box
Statistically, the probability of any of us being here is so small that you’d think the mere fact of existing would keep us all in contented dazzlement of surprise. — Lewis Thomas
Day 23 — NaPoWriMo
I fell asleep very early last night because, it turned out I was a bit under the weather. At some point I turned off the light and stayed asleep, mostly, until this morning when I discovered what had been going on! I tell this tale only to explain the absence of the regularly scheduled NaPoWriMo poem last night. Will try to get a bonus one done today. In the meantime, a longer version of the haiku sparked by today’s snowfall.
The train of winter following,
across the yet-brown hills,
turning heads with
a late April snowfall,
flurries that do not stick
but only cloud the view.
Heedless of the muddy paths,
veil flying in the chill
she’s leaving memories of November.
Where is winter going
in such a hurry, so late by May?
T- NaPoWriMo
Yes it snowed on and off for a good part of the morning and early afternoon here. The ground’s too muddy for it to stick but c’mon May, put an end to it all.
the train of winter
dragged across the muddy path
left a memorythe train of winter
skirting across the Berkshires
veil flies in the wind. The train of winter
skirting across April hills
veils flying towards May.
Tonight’s sky show
Complete with a sun pillar and some great clouds including one that looked like a cornucopia. See the whole album here.
