I dangled the prospect of seeing Brave if I got half the center section of my quilt sewn. And so it was made to be. Sorry, been listening to The Story of King Arthur and His Knights.
Anyway, I went off to Chatham, secured a place nigh onto the theater and dismounted from my mighty mount, clad all in silver and. Oh wait…
There were maybe four families there with kids ranging from very very small to older elementary grade in the theater.
I won’t divulge all the particulars. Before the film started I was thinking back on the first thing I’d seen at the Crandell years ago – Monsters Inc. At the time I was totally taken by the short film shown beforehand – For the Birds.
With that the curtains closed and opened and a couple Disney/Pixar trailers and then… a short! La Luna. Most wonderful.
Then the main attraction: Brave.
I won’t say too much since I know several people who haven’t yet seen it, but I will say I found myself having to be quite brave myself because several parts were rather scary. I felt bad for the littler short people who were there. OK, I did want to hurt the woman sitting behind me who talked a GREAT deal to the small child who was with her. Presumably to keep said small child from bolting or screaming.
I will say, the whole was wonderful – beautiful to look at and surprising in many ways. The incessant commercials for the film totally preserved the plot of the film and made it look rather silly. I purposely didn’t go looking for any plot information before I went so I was allowed to be taken in by the story line. I was relieved that the trailers and ads revealed so little about the whole.
I give it a definite thumbs up but leave the little little kids at home. It’s not a cartoon for the very very young. I will confess to a lot of smiling over the games and a relief that the music was not overwhelming (not celtic enough for my taste and not overwhelming in the main). And, the dedication gave my heart a strong tug.
We’re going this weekend! But I really don’t like scary. When should I close my eyes?
I think you’ll be ok. I look forward to hearing what you thought.
