On my list of regularly read blogs is that of Judy Martin, recently met at Quilt National. I’ve enjoyed her work and her writings and photos for quite a long time and every once in awhile I click on random things over there just to see where it takes me.
Today I noticed a Rothko category in the sidebar. Hmmmm I knew I liked you Judy and now I like you even more, I thought as I looked at her postings about studies she was doing surrounding Rothko and his work. And then I found one of my favorite excuses to work large, I mean, quotes:
I want to be very intimate and human. To paint a small picture is to place yourself outside your experience, to look upon an experience as with a reducing glass. However, when you paint the larger picture, you are in it.
— Mark Rothko
This reminds me to put the Rothko Chapel on my “to-do list.”
