So what’s up peeps? I spent yesterday like most of you – being too hot. I did catch up on the last Harry Potter films so I’m good to go for the last movie now. Other than that I didn’t really do anything. Read a little Lord of the Rings after I was done with the HP movies. Drank a LOT.
I am still thinking about the whole art/innovation/etc thing. I thumbed through The View From The Studio Door: How Artists Find Their Way In An Uncertain World over dinner last night and that would be a good read for people thinking about these big questions. How do you find out what interests you? (ok – do more work. then do some more.) How do you choose your medium? (the same) How do you know when you’re doing something important? (because it’s important to you!).
Talk to me people! Write comments or it didn’t happen!
Yes doing and doing lets you know is this me or not.
You might be interested in the interview with Matt Kish I linked to — are you really an artist if you don’t have that precious MFA? Just how pretentious are Artist Statements? And as you say — ‘do the work’, in his case one illustration a day for over 550 days.
That was awesome – I hadn’t checked it out yet. Loved his comments about other “artists”. LOL I think we might know a few of those. You can read the article Naomi mentioned about Matt Kish and his illustrated version of Moby Dick here.
