There should have been one more point earlier

I should have fessed up and admit that I closed my eyes for a minute while pondering what I was about to type* and well, almost fell asleep.

I did add a pitiful amount** to the word count tonight and set Matt, my protagonist onto a little personal journey I hope so I’m taking myself to my warm bed. In better news, I just had a little idea of where he might be going next.

* ok, also in the realm of true confession is that what I was pondering was my protagonist waking up in a wonderfully warm, sweet-smelling bed with a brain full of deep thoughts and questions.

** and by this I mean a really pitiful amount.

Dear questionably neighbors

I find it difficult to believe that so many of you have to drive your not-small-children to the corner bus stop each and every day to await the school bus. We’re talking two or three cars at two different places, what, a hundred yards apart? How far do you live from these pick up places that your kids aren’t able to get their on their own OR wait there on their own?

No. Instead, you insist on driving them some short distance, sitting in your individual cars with the engines running until the bus arrives.

Here’s the real reason for writing: I wouldn’t know this if you didn’t also leave your headlights on, pointing directly into my bedroom window and at my head. If I wake up again tomorrow… well.

I really find it incredible that you can’t at least carpool or… sit in the dark for a few minutes. (Don’t make me give the walking to school in the snowstorm, uphill in both directions speech…)

On the other hand, one of your not-small children was out of the car for some reason this morning and stepped into the road in front of my work-bound car this morning, so perhaps they’re not quite ready for prime time things like waiting at a freaking bus stop.

Sincerely,

your neighbor who is tired of waking up to your headlights.

#NaNoWriMo thoughts, day 2

1) I’ve identified three major ideas that the last part of this book/whatever has to deal with. Well, “has to” sounds a bit harsh… how about “could deal with.” Too wishy washy? I wrote the three things in my writing journal with my purple fountain pen so they must be true!

Writing down the bones

2) I wrote down the first paragraphs of this year’s NaNoWriMo here in the prepared blank document. I deleted a few sentences before moving on to the second and third paragraphs so I think it will be ok going forward.

I did re-read all of the previous work. I didn’t much like the last bit of action so I decided to start on a different day and somehow I’ll have to go back and fit the edges together. I have some experience of easing things back together so I’m ok with starting a little ahead of where I left off.

3) tonight on the way home I had a very clear idea for something to try in fabric. I like the idea a lot and I have an idea of how to achieve it. More to follow.

4) I think I need to fetch my cool “make good art” cap and wear it. Little nippy tonight. Storms in on Sunday.

Day one #NaNoWriMo

well sort of a rough start to Nanowrimo 2012. Had planned to write at lunch but lost a bit of time doing stuff. Came home tonight with good intentions. My overall plan for the month is to continue the story started last year, perhaps restarting it from where the original “end” of the first part of the story seemed to be. The after-November writing which went on for a few months seemed to be more disjointed and the plot a little sketchier. So maybe re-launch that part, that was my plan.

I thought I better re-read the thing though to get refreshed with the characters and things I might have set in play but not gotten to yet.

The good news is that I really enjoyed reading the story again, this time after quite a long time away. The bad news is (I guess) that I liked quite a bit of the story in the second part.

So the question is: ditch it all? chop it up and rejoin it in a different way? start somewhere near the current end?

The sort of bad news is that I didn’t write anything today. But the good news is that I’m probably a lot more prepared to start tomorrow. So meh, 1667 words – I can catch that up no problem. Just as soon as I start.

Tomorrow’s plan – just start somewhere near the end with something that will be an action in the story and I think I have a glimmer of a start.

This is much different than starting last year with a blank page and not a single idea at all about what was going to happen. But I’m good with it.

Variations on a #haiku

Just couldn’t get the first line out of my head.

path to possible
creating travels that road
a daily commute

path to possible
creating, I make choices
each step behind me.

path to possible
each thing we do creating;
every choice a step.

path to possible
each this or that, each color
each note, every word.

we live creating
our days and beings are a
path to possible.
