Ready for Friday’s assignments

Have a couple errands to run tomorrow but I’m really looking forward to the end of week two flower crazy lesson – adding watercolor on top of the gesso patterns we created on paper. We’ll see how it all turns out:

In the meantime here’s a “before” look:

Happy Pi Day!

Happy Pi Day all! Yes that’s right, it’s 3.14

Please make a note on your calendars now that in two years we should do some serious partying since the pi day will be on 3.14.15… Also, as an aside, if you’re reading this after the fact, you may choose to celebrate Pi Approximation day on the 22nd of July (yes that’s right 22/7… get out your calculator if you must.)

pi or cake or what?
I mean, pie or cake or what?
how many digits?

Happy pi day all!

What you say matters.

I saw someone today who is an artist and a teacher and I was so excited to tell her about this online watercolor class I’m taking. I showed her some of the iPhone pictures of the first week’s lessons. And she said something like, ‘it looks like you’ve always done this.’

Not – how wonderful (although she made lots of nice noises). Not – how interesting (although she asked some very specific questions about how different techniques were done).

We talked for just a few minutes about how trying a different medium can shake everything up. She looked at my stuff and I found myself saying, well, this stuff is the same as what I do with quilting in terms of the shapes and patterns.

As the words came out of my head, it gave me a big ah ha moment.

I love this sort of thing – a little conversation that opens some big doors.

Best thing today, also heard…

a red-winged blackbird. Pretty darn sure although I never did get a clear look at it. Somethings you just don’t forget. Or it might be hopeful thinking…

Tuesday? Is that what I heard?

I went to work. I ate the lunch, the beautiful lunch I’d packed for myself. I helped people as best I could, before and after lunch.

Had some delicious food for dinner. Applied gesso to paper and managed not to wear it.

Now? Seriously time for some cookies and red wine. Hey, that’s how I’m calling it.

like watching gesso dry...
