NaPoWriMo 2023 Day 6

I stepped outside to contribute the coffee grounds to the garden and it was much warmer outside than in. I came in, and even before making the new coffee, I opened my bedroom window to the spring. Such a relief to have fresh air in the house after all the furnace mess and cleanup.

Stepping outside to
warmer than inside the house
Open the windows

I paint daffodils
remembering the planting
so deep, years ago

Plant them a foot down
with plenty of bone meal and
they’ll bloom happily

Below daffodils
the daylilies are sprouting
later pleasures.

From the Quote Box:
The aim of art is not to represent the outward appearance of things, but their inner significance.
— Aristotle

The Daffodils

The past couple years, this view has been interrupted or obliterated by snow. This year, spring might seem to be arriving more gradually but it might be because – so far – there’s not been a wintery reprise.

NaPoWriMo 2023 Day 5

Stayed home and rummaged for something I’ve been looking for (yet unfound) and then admired the daffodils which really started their show today. Tried not to rummage or ruminate about the current news too much.

Middle of the week
Things remain undone but some
accidental finds

One mug used daily
While ten more on shelf grow sad
And dusty

Yesterday’s news
Wrapped up around stinky fish
It all smells

NaPoWriMo 2023 Day 4

Mom and I had dueling eye doctor appointments, same time, different doctors. We drove home via Joann’s and I picked out some fabric for chair cushions, after we sat in the car and read today’s breaking news headlines. Then it was home to enjoy a wonderful dinner of Norwegian salmon and celebratory bloody marys.

Sat in the front yard
watching the daffodils blooming
rather than the news

it’s possible spring
will last a week or so
unless we get snow

over there a grackle
is being scolded by a
chickadee or two

such a relief, the sun
warm on me and the garden
be hopeful today

NaPoWriMo 2023 Day 3

So windy out today – there will be nothing of March or winter for that matter left to see. Cleaned out desk drawer, drew the cat.

Already monday
and i’ve cleaned without coffee
now we’re in brunch mode

cleaning out drawers
the usual dried out pens
paperclips and dust

truth about cleaning
tidiness doesn’t last
without intent

toss junk no mercy
return small memories
to be found again
