From the Quote Box

Art to me, is seeing. I think you have got to use your eyes, as well as your emotion, and one without the other just doesn’t work. That’s my art.

NaPoWriMo 2023 Day Two

Had hoped to go out and paint but it is just a bit too nippy for that. Wandered around the yard looking at the daffodils which are so close to popping out. Lots of little birds and a whole lot of welcome blue sky and sunshine.

white marble sidewalk
criss-crossed with blue shadows
a single junco

shifting shadows
run away from the sun
words I cannot read

sidewalk never moves
shadow restlessly watches
chickadee fly off

NaPoWriMo Day 1 2023

Ran some errands and had dinner with Mom. Weather alert sounded on my phone towards the end and we noted the sky on the way to her house. High winds during the trip home but most of the rain was dripping from one cloud to the next with interesting light effects.

oh my god weather
the breathlessness of it all
under the dark clouds

in the east, yellow
the other side of sunset
swept into gray clouds.

first plops of rain,
sheets of water in one cloud
spilling to the next

The Eve of April

Here at the month’s end
the night ripples with words
waiting to take flight

grey evening falls
from the shoulders
of waiting April

A yearly tradition of waiting for April and NaPoWriMo to begin. Happy writing everyone!

Know that it is good to work. Work with love and think of liking it when you do it. It is easy and interesting. It is a privilege. There is nothing hard about it but your anxious vanity and fear of failure. — Brenda Ueland

Button, Button – Who’s Got The Button?

Very unexpected find today. I’m pretty confident that that’s my very first Question Authority button, which I got by asking the woman who was wearing it if I could get one and she handed it to me (a bit reluctantly perhaps). Because of this, if people comment on my RESIST or “Dare to Call It Treason” buttons, I am ready to hand them over. The more the merrier!

button with white background. in lowercase, black letters in center: whining. Imposed over this the universal red NO circle and slash.
