a very short poem

from that Ted Kooser Book. Slow going reading this book because it is packed to the brim with gems like this and Ted Kooser thinking about poetry from all different directions.

Artichoke

O heart weighed down by so many wings.

J – NaPoWriMo

Once I got Jelly Jeopardy stuck in my head I could only start writing, lol.

jelly jeopardy
“preserves for six hundred please”
“what contains whole fruit?”

jelly jeopardy
“This contains crushed strawberries”
“what’s strawberry jam?”

jelly jeopardy
“Made from cooked and strained apples”
“what’s apple jelly?”

Today’s Mail, Ted Kooser

From the “About This Book”

This is only one of many books about poetry writing. It’s not very lengthy because there’s only so much I know. I’ve learned a lot about writing poems, but I’ll never get to the end of all the poetry still to be learned from, never make all the discoveries I’d like to make. — Ted Kooser, The Poetry Home Repair Manual

Day 10, NaPoWriMo

Tonight on the drive home,
a chiffon bit of fiery cloud
hung so close to the road
an escapee from the bank of
golden and steel blue
at the edge of the world –
Seemed like impossible magic
and it was, impossibly, gone
when the west reappeared
at the next open field.
At the next, the world darkened
and at the next
only the dark trees
made the sky light.
