The bolting cat, in haiku form

Deirdre, who’s often nose to the door these days, took her shot and bolted out the door this morning. She wasn’t even near the door when I opened it. I didn’t think she was going to stop but she did, on the sidewalk.

She was out the door
before I knew she was near
Deirdre the cat, out!

She ran out the door
and showed no sign of regret –
did not look when called

She hesitated
in the sun on the sidewalk
so I caught her up.

Deirdre looked around
she was glad to go inside
once she’d been outside

the rain woke me up.
Warm April night turned windy;
i closed the window.
