Meanwhile I heard this expression go by while I’m watching the Hugo Awards: “Filk”. What? What was that you said?
Filk is a musical culture, genre, and community tied to science fiction/fantasy fandom and a type of fan labor. The genre has been active since the early 1950s, and played primarily since the mid-1970s. The term (originally a typographical error) predates 1955[1]… As the Interfilk What Is Filk page[2] demonstrates, there is no consensus definition of filk. Attempts have been made to define filk based on various criteria.
I totally don’t know enough about filks or filking to write a single haiku about it, but I wanted to come clean. Heck. I’m a noob. That is all.
