Did a bit of shopping, had to get stuff for the cats, silly demanding beasts.
While going around I was listening to the Librivox version of The Island of Dr. Moreau by HG Wells. I have to say that HG Wells has been a welcome relief in the coursework. I’d listened to The Invisible Man a while ago but I just found recordings of The Star and The Country of the Blind. Then I found Dr. Moreau.
HG Wells seems to make a huge leap out of late 19th century style and mind and into modern ideas and writing. Each of the stories have been riveting and with a nice “I’d like to read that again!”
I’m a little more than halfway through Dr. Moreau now. The odd bit about the librivox recording is that it’s one chapter per “podcast” and many different readers are involved. This has been less of an issue than I might have expected. There was one woman with a very low rumbly hoarse sort of voice but she was still easily understood.
