Commencement

I had the honor of attending my nephew’s graduation commencement from RPI today. I enjoyed the bagpipes, the speakers* and all, even if it does take awhile to get everyone up on the stage to receive their diploma.

I’m a little pinker than I was yesterday but that’s ok. Grats to my nephew and all the other newly minted grads going out there to make their marks on the world. It’s good to be reminded of beginnings and being young and wondering what’s going to happen next. (ok, I still have that question going on!)

* Dr. Steven Chu got my vote for best talk of the day – funny and inspirational and to the point. He made some important points about one’s work work and the importance of doing things outside of work too and talked about geek-ness and nerd-dom. I loved this: “if you’re going to fail, fail doing something big. And then move on to the next thing quickly.”

Like this Mary Beth, I too liked Dr Steven Chu. He was talking directly to the grads. He added some humor but gave them something useful to remember. Great Day. Liked the pictures too.
