Not on the to-do list

This might not be on your to-do list today, but Mom and I both enjoyed this and now that I’ve watched it too I have to say you need to watch this, regardless of what your work is on a day to day basis.

“Science fiction author Ray Bradbury regales his audience with stories about his life and love of writing in “Telling the Truth,” the keynote address of The Sixth Annual Writer’s Symposium by the Sea…”

At the end, I confess to shedding a few tears. I’ve had emails, and a few people coming up to me at exhibits to tell me about how much they’ve enjoyed this or that quilt, and I knew exactly what Mr. Bradbury was describing. You can’t work towards that moment but what a kick in the head it is. His last anecdote, you could see the pleasure it gave him to recall it, so powerful the contact with the reader/viewer.

I do think of the viewer a bit, usually when I’m done or mostly done with a quilt. I wonder what they’ll find there. I pick a title hoping to not lead them in any particular direction so they can find their own way. I love when they come and tell me what they found, what they felt. That’s their journey, after I’ve had my own. The two paths cross at the piece itself. I had my “surprise” as Ray describes it and now the viewer has theirs.
