Last night’s progress

Last night, with a bit of a tear, some sighs and a smile or two, I finished The Neverending Story. Such a good read. Yes meant for younger eyes but the story is beautiful and classic and the world is just wondrous. I really was not sure how it would end and was gladdened by the whole march up to the end so it wouldn’t have mattered what the exact details were.

Then I peeked inside If on a winter’s night a traveler home of some of the longest and most wonderful sentences on paper. It was late and I wasn’t very dedicated to making a lot of progress but I did get a bit into it. Stay tuned.

Today? Wash and cooking and more cooking and who knows, maybe a little more wrapping. We’ll see. Right now: another cuppa coffee and looks like the water’s boiling for noodles.

Jane at Thom’s in Nassau has me convinced that the whole uncooked noodles thing will work for lasagna but I’m not about to do that for the pan I’m bringing somewhere. I’ll do that with an extra pan and see how it turns out just to convince myself totally first. I never have problems doing the noodles anyway – very al dente and then stopped cooking in cold water. But it would speed up the process if it works. I guess stay tuned for that too. Jane says they make their own lasagna that way for the restaurant so I am going to try it, based on that. Their lasagna is good (not as good as mine but mainly because I like my sauce better.)

‘If on a winter’s night’ is amazing. Must reread it soon! I love the list of the different types of books:

    >”Books You Needn’t Read, the Books Made For Other
    >Purposes Than Reading, Books Read Even Before You Open
    >Them Since They Belong To The Category Of Books Read
    >Before Being Written….Books That If You Had More
    >Than One Life You Would Certainly Also Read But
    >Unfortunately Your Days Are Numbered…..Books You
    >Mean To Read But There Are Others You Must Read First,
    >the Books Too Expensive Now And You’ll Wait Till
    >They’re Remaindered, the Books ditto When They Come
    >Out In Paperback, Books You Can Borrow From Somebody,
    >Books That Everybody’s Read So It’s As If You Had Read
    >Them, Too…”
    >(and my personal favorite)
    >”Books That Fill You With A Sudden, Inexplicable
    >Curiosity, Not Easily Justified.”

That list goes on for about two pages in my copy! Made me nod and laugh. I read parts of it aloud because the sentence structure seemed made for that.

PS on the noodle front. I think problems with lasagna noodles are more related to the brand of the noodle than anything else. I generally use Prince brand or italian imports and have little problem with ripping. I threw in a box of store brand today and many of them just literally shred themselves into oblivion. I had those shreds for lunch. The rest were beautifully full and without tears.

Also worth noting that the generic brand were not the right length for the pan. Grrrr.

yeah, that was a snip I’d posted on another list a long time ago. Just went to UHLS and requested it. Maybe I’ll try Neverending Story too!
