It is my great pleasure to inform you that your work, Solveig , has been chosen for exhibition in the Quilt National ’11 show.
Holy mackeral what a day. I saw the QN and the word notification in the subject line and my iphone chose that moment to conceal all other bits of the email. Nooooooo. Restart the phone. Nothing. Dash to a computer and after a few badly typed tries I get into gmail and find the line shown above. Wow. Pull out the phone again and call my folks. I would have sworn I called my folks at the lake but when mom answered they were in Rensselaer and very happy about the news. Spammed a bunch of people with the OMG news.
The rest of the day was like a roller coaster ride of emotions and emails and such. There was still a bit of happy dancing and omg-ing, but I was at work and had to at least seem calm some of the time.
I remember the last time this happened. Came home from an English Country dance and found this email saying my quilt Brush was “in”. I remember swinging between “this can’t possibly be a real email from the real Quilt National folks. Has to be a joke” and dancing around the room with a lot of “holy cow!-ing” going on. I spent a few hours running that email through every spam-buster I knew, checking IP’s and routes and domains and everything else I could think to do to show it was all an evil prank of a spoof. Finally I sent an email to the QN director via an email link on their website. Not replying to the email I’d received, see. I didn’t really mention what the email I’d gotten had said, I asked only if it was information I could share or was it a secret. And the reply came back – you can share it and congrats!
Then the real dancing around began.
