Just back from a beauteous little vacation with my folks in Lovely Brant Lake. Always a good time with the parental units. Quiet, superbly spectacular weather, good food, lots of chat, a visit with some other relations and lots and lots of sleep and R&R. No ‘net, extremely sporadic email (although it turns out there wasn’t much anyway), no WoW, no work….
I could get used to that mighty quickly. No problem whatsoever. I tell them I am there to lose at scrabble or canasta but I did manage (thanks Dad for the coaching!) to hold my own on the canasta front one night against Mom!
I went prepared with two melons, the first – a cantaloupe – turned out to be as perfect as they get; peaches and tomatoes; all from Kristy’s Farm in Schodack. YUMMY. They describe their peaches as two-napkin peaches for a reason. Mom thought the tomatoes were from my non-existent garden. Buy local and support your local farms. The owner and I had a nice chat on Wednesday about CSAs and their take on them. I suggested a couple of CSA alternative ideas and was rewarded with my own surprise bonus – an asian pear warm off the tree. Next year will be the 100th year of that farm being in production, under one family.
