Good times roll in Azeroth

I’m at the beginning of some time off, so what better way to start than some quality time in the lands of Azeroth? My big excitement yesterday was “BC Raid night” with my current guild Daes Daemar – we did, in order of appearance:

  • Gruul’s (with someone else tanking Krosh!),
  • Magtheridon (with me winning his head!),
  • Black Temple (full clear, FTW! The sweep, the scale, the lore, the music!).  In spite of having a biggish group of 80’s it turns out muscle alone won’t always win.  A wipe or two just to keep us honest and to give us a moment to say “yeah and here’s how it’s really going to go down this time” but at the end all lay dead and the rather condensed but still legit achievement was ours who hadn’t gotten it…. and thence to
  • Kara for Prince who lay dead at someone else’s hands.  So we killed Nethersprite in the middle of the first round of beams and then Nightbane from the air while he spewed adds at us.  He has to land to die, turns out.

All with one main healer and a couple part time helpers, and 15-20 guildies.  A good time was had by all. It was especially nice for me because I haven’t been raiding, don’t really know the raid leaders or their style and this was a nice low pressure way to get to know them better.

One funny moment was before starting when I got into ventrilo (voice chat for those not of the MMO variety).  I said hello and one of my guildies said “what? quilt? you’re a girl?”  LOL!  Since there were three -ahem- women in vent and only two guys at the time we had a pretty good time with that.

In other news, my G5 iMac is apparently jealous of my neighbor’s new MacBook and is making “I’m offing my hard drive because you diss’d me” sort of noises.  Luckily – Time Machine will prevail for file recovery and I spent a bit of time getting the more day-to-day necessities moved from there to here.

You know what?  Turns out I don’t own a USB flash drive, but I did press my old-school white shuffle into play to move stuff like Skype contacts, bookmarks for firefox and safari and the like.  Gotta love what one Gig can do for you with space to spare!

So let me repeat my tired tale – folks – back up even if it seems mundane. Mac on one of the Leopards?  Get an external drive and use Time Machine. You’ll be glad you did.

PS have a rendezvous with a new hard drive tomorrow for the G5 and of course it’s been pretty well behaved ever since… goofy hardware.
