K – NaPoWriMo

This large cat, filling
the crook behind my bent knee —
kittenish no longer.

the blank kitten stare,
looking, pouncing, waiting look:
grows knowing with age.

Cat, too large to lift,
content now to sleep on lap
once a small kitten.

Sleep my agéd cat —
in my memory, safe
you remain, kitten

the cats who love me,
the kittens who stole my heart,
luckily, the same.

I am sure many people relate to this poem. Even though
    I just borrowed
    Them I am attached.

      many will relate •
Although I just borrowed them •
      I got quite attached.

Thanks Mom – for borrowing my cats while I was in NZ!

This is wonderful, Mary Beth. It expresses with simplicity the complexity and depth that can come when you share your life and home with cats. May I share with a friend who recently lost her 20 year old cat?
