An Artist is Never Poor.

So says Babette after her feast, her French dinner, is complete. As the truth about her is revealed at the very end of Babette’s Feast she goes on to quote her friend, the singer Achilles Papin, about her cooking:

Through all the world there goes one long cry from the heart of the artist: Give me leave to do my utmost. Babette’s Feast, Karen Blixen

What a fabulous movie and I’m so glad to have had the chance to watch it again. (All right, I actually watched it twice during my rental period and the second serving was just as good as the first.)

In an odd note, IMDB offers this bit of trivia that this is Pope Francis’ favorite movie… No explanation is given.
