Happy Anniversary Blog!
Once again I am sadly late in observing the anniversary of this blog. The first post was on February 4, 2001. How different the world was then. Since then, I’ve
- changed careers (after a lengthy period of unemployment)
- learned more about computers than I thought would be reasonable or desireable (still haven’t truly become a geek although I did visit someone tonight with a portable hard drive in my pocket)
- done some good things which I am glad to have done
- done some really stupid things which cause some stinging even now
- been recognized and touted as the must-interview person on the subject of fruitcake every December
- made some good quilts
- made some really good bread and pizza
- laughed some good laughs
- cried some good tears
- taken back my life in a whole bunch of ways (and it’s not the mess that some would have had me believe) and
- lived through the world changing in a single morning in September.
But in February 2001, the possibilities offered in blogging were new and exciting. I’d found some great websites that turned out to be blogs and decided that this fit with everything I’d ever wanted to do on the web. It offers a great way to update your “content” as we used to say in the dot com biz while also providing a way for others to participate by adding comments. It allows past postings to remain accessible to viewers by doing the work behind the scenes of creating archived stuff. Blogger and other software allows for simple updates of your page design, clean and easy.
I had started my first blog in January 2001 as part of a grant I had to take photos and make quilts and to present that information and process on the web. That worked out really well
All in all, a great way to share the stuff of life – things seen along the way, fun times, cats, quotes, thoughts, etc. More of a diary than I’ve ever been able to keep up, although with none of the angst. Surely that’s a good thing for you, gentle reader.
Happy anniversary dear blog!
