Just to change things up — I took advantage of a drop in humidity to sew a few rows of quilt tonight. Will try to get as much done tomorrow as possible! Got a wonderful postcard from Mom today and one from Virginia made from my current quilt’s scraps — big excitement in the mailbox!

I’ve spent some time the last few nights learning about WordPress, a different way to do blogs and pages. Last night I was aglow with geekiness for awhile, importing, styling, using mySQL to categorize some links and setting up a stat service on my server hosted wordpress page. On the gardening side of things, I measured 2 inches of rain in two and a half hours one day this weekend and well, that basically flattened out my little lettuce patch. Last night I stopped at a local garden center and they luckily still had some seeds and better yet, they were on sale. I got enough to replant now and replant even later. Came home, hoed up the broken down little plants and reseeded, all the while muttering about whatever it is that keeps chowing down on the beans. I soothed myself with some big ol’ blackberries.
I did a little more piecing on my new project – going pretty well. I just need some blocks of time with reasonable temperatures and not being so tired at night. Funny how that works.

[later] I’m afraid it does. I added a plug in that allows things like apostrophes and other characters to appear correctly. Whoops. I’ve gone over the edge.
ok, it’s true, I did a little internal happy dance when I got the stats working. And when I got the whole link category thing worked out. Have to figure out the “read more” thing, but hey – other people figure it out, so I guess I will too. One thing I can say absolutely – the VQS book on wordpress 2? – save your money. Pay off your web host bill with the money or order pizza. I count on books like that to help me learn new things but more importantly: do the troubleshooting! If you’re not too code savvy, chances are you’ll be confused. And of course the subject is already sort of muddied by the whole wordpress.com v. wordpress.org thing, right? right. Maybe it will be more useful once I get further down the road but so far it’s been rather disappointing.
