TGIF

well, another of our little band of adventurers hit 70 this week, making us the most un-likely pair of level leaders of the bunch (just my humorous opinion!). A few days into it and he’s experiencing some of the same things I did — ummmm xp please? How to get back into the swing of doing real quests etc…

The good news – we had a nice reunion and really kicked in a favorite instance. And! have plans to go back. I had to use my level 70 magely skills to figure out why my quests seemed rather messed up but it all came out in the end. The resolution involved me doing a bit of soloing around the edges of the instance (or dungeon) and picking up the next part of the series. If it weren’t for the power of the web I’m not sure how I would know that, but hey – it’s all good.

And although it’s not totally easy (as evidenced by me dying amidst a cloud of game characters beating on a couple of hapless level 40’s last night!) it is nice not to die mostly. And not being the low level on the group totem pole – totally good!

This morning’s commute included a pair of great blue herons flying over the hudson. Doesn’t get much better.

Happy May Day!

May First — the official season-turning point.  Doesn’t matter where you live, but by May 1st pretty much everyone is ready to hit the outdoors and do something different.  So for some – flowery garlands, earth-wakening dances, etc.  For others, whatever comes to them.

This was the quote of the moment when I came here today:

Is not that a great principle for all of living? The people who will really accomplish great things in life are those who are willing to discipline their lives, who maintain their health, their vitality, their efficiency through this process of rigorous disciplining of what they take into their bodies and what they do in life. It’s a very important thing in terms of championship living. — Bob Richards, Olympic Pole Vaulting Champion

To which I must agree.  Turns out that’s pretty much my modus operandi.  Many a time I wish for a bit of moderation, but it’s true that you get more results, experience things more fully, see what’s possible by running full tilt, and then jumping in with both feet off the deep end.  How’s that for mixed and cumulative metaphors?

Is there a cost?  Certainly.  Is there a pay out?  Many times.  I can’t say it’s the best approach to all situations in life, but I will encourage you to use it to embrace this short bit of time we know as spring.

Go for a walk, check out the back yard, listen for some new bird songs, gaze at the sky, check out the moon at night…. feel the power of Spring.  Let it in.

What’s that again?

If high-powered ranged combat and mass carnage suit your tastes, the mage is a good choice.

OK, if WoWWiki says so! Oh wait – ranged combat? mass carnage? nuking?  oh yeah – that’s me.  Ask anyone!

In the meanwhile, the forsythia are in bloom, mostly, the daffodils are enjoying the spring and well – the flock of turkey vultures have returned to East Nassau.  All good indeed.

What are you going to do next?

Saturday…. sometime Saturday…… because a single Warmaul Ogre charged at me….. I experienced the flash of light and that was that: I was now level 70. Standing all by myself atop the Warmaul Hill in Nagrand, one of my favorite ogre locales. In a way, that seemed fitting since much of my time getting to that flash of light and congratulatory message was spent soloing.

I really had no idea what my feelings at the moment might be, and predictably they were mixed. The last couple bars of experience I certainly had a “make it last longer” sense. Make it go on. Don’t kill if you don’t have to…. and it won’t happen. Yet. Maybe make it while doing something nice…. turning in a quest or…. but then that ogre caught sight of me and well, done is done.

I stood atop Warmaul hill for a bit soaking it all in and then there wasn’t much to do but port myself to my favorite mage trainer in Stormwind for a final bit of training. Back to where it all began as it were, and again – I was the only one there. Alone with the mage and portal trainers and my own mixed feelings. I had packed the three tomes of level 70 skills, purchased over the past few weeks to spread the sticker-shock pain around, in my bag and trained those as well.
Off to the auction house, the vendors, the mailbox…

Started getting a few congratulatory messages and then my druid-friend showed up and knelt before me and gave me presents – flowers, wine and cheese. Then he began proclaiming loudly to me (and all within earshot) about how I was now a level 70!

Somewhere along the way we picked up a level 10 character who needed a little help. Paw helped him with that and then the new kid was wishing he had cats like ours…. so we scooped him up and brought him round to the Crazy Cat Lady in Northshire and in celebration of my leveling, I purchased him a cat. He was amazed and confused and probably thought these two folks pretty odd, but he got over it!

Then we ported a newly level 20 mage to pick up her first portals.

Then we rambled a bit doing questage for Paw and then I rested. Oh and among other presents received: a mana wyrm (thanks Jackie and Matt!) and (thanks Matt!) a 10 pound, off-hand fish!

Water water everywhere!

Three days of rain – sometimes 3″ a day….. well let’s just say that this nor’easter has made our cup overflow – or at least our streams and rivers.  You can almost see the tree buds swelling before your eyes as all that water is sucked upwards in the trees.  Everything else?  looking a little soggy.
