May First — the official season-turning point. Doesn’t matter where you live, but by May 1st pretty much everyone is ready to hit the outdoors and do something different. So for some – flowery garlands, earth-wakening dances, etc. For others, whatever comes to them.
This was the quote of the moment when I came here today:
Is not that a great principle for all of living? The people who will really accomplish great things in life are those who are willing to discipline their lives, who maintain their health, their vitality, their efficiency through this process of rigorous disciplining of what they take into their bodies and what they do in life. It’s a very important thing in terms of championship living. — Bob Richards, Olympic Pole Vaulting Champion
To which I must agree. Turns out that’s pretty much my modus operandi. Many a time I wish for a bit of moderation, but it’s true that you get more results, experience things more fully, see what’s possible by running full tilt, and then jumping in with both feet off the deep end. How’s that for mixed and cumulative metaphors?
Is there a cost? Certainly. Is there a pay out? Many times. I can’t say it’s the best approach to all situations in life, but I will encourage you to use it to embrace this short bit of time we know as spring.
Go for a walk, check out the back yard, listen for some new bird songs, gaze at the sky, check out the moon at night…. feel the power of Spring. Let it in.
