Things Mages want Non-Mages to know

LOL and they wonder why mages are notoriously mean….. read ’em people, read ’em!. Shoot <The Mages Union> a pst if you have questions. Or better yet, don't do that - ask someone else. We're done with you.

  • Politeness will get you everywhere; don't send a tell to the mage saying, "water kthx." Many will laugh and then /ignore you.
  • When you do ask for food or water, try to spell entire words. Typing "plz" instead of "please" could be the sole reason the mage turns down your request. As several mages famously put it, "If you say 'plz' because it's shorter than 'please', I'll say 'no' because it's shorter than 'yes'."
  • Confusing a mage with a warlock and consequently asking for a summon may end up in your being sent to the other side of the world. Though you will give the mage a good story to tell his guild...

This is the stuff that makes mean mages laugh very very hard. Thank you WoWWiki.

The Creep of Seasons

In the morning when the alarm goes off, it’s no longer the dark of dark. There’s a bit of color off to the east. Sometimes by the time I hit the road there’s a proper sunrise going on – by that I mean not just like but something worth looking in the rear-view mirror for.

In the evening when I leave work, it’s no longer the start of dark of dark. It’s light and the eastern and western skies are quite different and change rapidly as I drive home. Right now it’s dark when I arrive home but next week it won’t be as dark.

Last night as I came up the hill out of Nassau, the light was doing its Hudson River School thing, and blam! a foreshadowing of spring: that unmistakable blush of red in the maples as they showed just how much they enjoyed the spurt of warm days. I imagined that the maple sugaring guys were out doing their thing while I was at work, inside. But those red red trees which made all the hills just glow in their pre-spring-i-ness. Blam!

happy new year, redux

Maybe it’s just come to this, that sometimes you have to sweep away some of the old stuff and leave room for new stuff to take up residence.

Last night I skimmed through yet another full mailbox full of email from a mailing list I’ve belonged to, well forever. Most of it made me roll my eyes, some of it made me grit my teeth, some of it made me seriously annoyed. I got to an email from someone I respect, rebutting some of the earlier email stupidness and found myself getting ready to jump in with support but…. most of me thought: just not worth my time and energy anymore. So I posted my farewell, went and unsubscribed and confirmed.

And then – and then – I went to gmail, filtered all that mail and deleted each and every stinkin’ email that was from that list. holy cow. it was like opening the windows and letting fresh air into your house on that first warmish day in spring. Even when you know you’ll have to put the storms down again before spring seriously arrives.

I will miss some of the folks, hearing about their lives and work. Most of them I have web sites and email addresses if I need contact. If I miss them too much, re-subscribing and re-lurking is an option. Not bloody likely as far as I can tell.

So happy…. whatever…. to me.
