Time off…

What can you say except that it is good, no matter how you spend it. Sometimes I stay up too late. Sometimes I am not productive. But I guess I’ve reached the point where I know that a paycheck is a paycheck.

I’ve done many very engrossing all-attention-using things and at times work has used a big chunk of my brain. But most of the time, that’s not the case. Work is what I do to make room for other work. Probably not what bosses want to hear, although I’d allow that many times I still outwork others and find ways to work more efficiently etc.

Oh well.

Time off = goodness.

Not all Martha…

You can make these as intricate or fancy as you like,” she said, “or you can make them plain and simple. You don’t have to get all kinds of Martha with it.”

And whatever Martha (ptui ptui) would say, this is one of those odd dates:  09/09/09  – so live it up somehow!

LOL and I just love that Martha has become a descriptive term now.  Well, actually, I think that phrase “you don’t have to get all kinds of Martha with it” is the best thing since hot glue guns appeared somewhere in darkest Connecticut.

That Tug of September

If you’re like me, September brings with it a change in air, but also a call to visit office supply places.

Today’s NYTimes has an article sure to cause a reaction. Suggesting that we replace Palmer style writing with italics is great and the article even gives the practice sheets to help you get started. May I suggest leaving some lined paper where you normally doodle so you can get some time in?

OK, you can go to the local Staples to get some lined paper and a new pen first.

Welcome Royals

Tomorrow the Heir-apparent of the Netherlands will be visiting Albany NY and so there has been much chatter about the visit 50 years ago of his mother, Queen Beatrix.  Well, loyal readers, hold onto your tiaras because I’m here to tell you – I was there!  And what’s more, my mother took film of the occasion.  AND because my brother got that footage into digital form and talked to a local news station about it – YOU can relive the moment too.

Here’s the news story with mom’s film of the parade and Queen Beatrix.

Now the funny thing is that Mom and I went to see the Queen and the parade in her honor, but we couldn’t stay for the whole thing because someone (ok it was my infant brother) was home needing Mom to come feed him.

And just in case you get the opportunity, here’s what you need to know.

Update 9/9/09:  Mike just sent me a link to the full film footage that’s now on the Times Union site, along with other stories about the Short royal visit.  Strangely, not only was this not a very public event but it apparently wasn’t worth actually writing about.  The TU only gives it a photo gallery and a couple videos…
