The news from here, so far
- First off: steel cut oatmeal this morning. Yummy beyond words. If I would just remember to make it in advance for several mornings of goodness, I’d eat it more often.
- Second: Fresh ground coffee. Don’t need to say much more there except I harbor the fantasy that grinding it by hand will give me firm arm muscles, LOL.
- Third: Turkey bacon.
- After my little thread freak out yesterday I did get some more done. When I hung it up to see the full thing I have one more first swipe long side to do and then a narrow border all the way around (four squares worth). I seem to remember quilting really big quilts something like: center, out to one corner, back to center and repeat. Not sure how I ended up doing center, all around, fix problems, (sides x 4)repeat.
- Last night I wrote this to facebook, but iphone doesn’t let you cut and paste entries elsewhere and I was too lazy to come downstairs:
I hope someone, someday, comments on the sculptural detailing of my quilting. Otherwise a lot of spools will have given their lives in vain. What I like about it reminds me of the small tool marks sculptors leave on a piece of stone. Thus ends the pompous speech for tonight lol.
- Oh and in the doomed land of Azeroth, my little hunter Aingeal hit the big 5-0 yesterday. I now know it has been reasonable of me to hate them. Aingeal cranks out huge amounts of dps/dmg while sitting back sipping coffee and noshing. Hunters have it all – crowd control, area of effect damage, self-preservation, built in tanking….
Hi I’m a mage, master of the arcane, president of the mages union, law enforcement arm of the Kirin Tor, but when I want to have fun and kill stuff without fuss, I play a hunter LOL.
- Hunters have combat pets. I have two so far: Ursalala, my bear is my tanking pet with attitude and a lip-smacking love of fish and banana bread and Cathpalug is my kitty who makes it all look easy.
- OK few more sips of coffee, a refill and then back to the quilting. Tomorrow’s big excitement: grocery shopping
eeks!
#12 bobbin in place. Check. My habit is to fill the now-empty set of bobbins to keep things flowing. Hmmmm. Suddenly the spool of thread feeding the bobbins doesn’t look all that full. Oops. Luckily a call to my friends at Superior Threads gives me hope and new thread on the way. What the heck – another cone of yellow too. And just for good measure, a couple of raven for the next one. Please hurry!
On your way from there to here
Actually, I am on my way from the kitchen back to the sewing machine, having off-loaded empty glasses and picked up newly-filled camelbak of refreshing beverage. This morning while having breakfast I remembered I’d marked this quote and so I’ll share it. Then it’s back to the quilt, having gotten to the part that looked messy but is turning out fine!
“Has every apprentice a teacher and a benefactor?” I asked to ease my turmoil.
“No, not every apprentice. Some do.”
“Why do some of them have both a teacher and a benefactor?”
“When an ordinary man is ready, power provides him with a teacher, and he becomes an apprentice. When the apprentice is ready, power provides him with a benefactor, and he becomes a sorcerer.”
Carlos Castaneda, Tales of Power
