almost half done with piecing

just started fifth-to-last column. I should be able to get these last ones sewn on tonight. Then, as May Son-Rise goers will recall, a whole lotta ironing to do to press everything open and then sewing in the other direction. Whoa, the magical life of it all.

Meanwhile, came down here to check on iOS update for iPhone being downloaded – about 11 min to go. And for good measure, installing iLife 11 as a hoped for solution to the computer being shut down maybe once or twice too often by small ferocious kitten. NoooooO! Ran disk utility and disk permission but iphoto was still a bit wonky, so I’m crossing my fingers here.

and for good measure while I’m watching the little bars go across the wee beastie aforemention computer killer and I are discussing the benefits of less biting and more licking and purring. Just saying. I’ve given the big cats the go ahead to whap sense into whatever little empty skull they deem necessary LOL.

What is it and why do we do it?

I often hear people say they could never make quilts because they’re not patient enough, or that they would be too bored at the prospect of doing the same thing over and over again.

I was thinking about this last night as the math part of my brain was figuring out how much thread per bobbin (probably about 55-60 yards based on this round of piecing) and how many squares were joined together so far (41*Y where Y is the number of columns joined together) and, lastly, the rest of my brain was wondering why isn’t this boring to me?

I don’t really have a clear neat arithmetical answer to this last bit. My only possibilities include the race to seeing the developing whole of my work. Forgive me while I point out that my plans don’t really allow for glomming on more stuff if this doesn’t work out, lol. I get to hang it up and see if it’s anything like what I thought it would be.

Or… It could be that it allows me the calm space to think about all these things, to tell myself — take an email break after this bunch.

Along with stuff like thinking about quilting plans and the rest of my messy life and vegetables for Thanksgiving dinner and such stuff as that.

May I quote you?

View from Kristy's Barn, Schodack west across the Hudson River

I went to visit Nancy this morning, who had graciously invited me over to fondle silk and maybe take some home with me. What? You thought I might turn down an offer like that? Thanks to google maps and iphone for getting me there and to Nancy for spending some nice time fondling and folding and sorting fabric. She was even nice enough to help carry my two quilts out to the car so I could carry the box of lovely silk! She did get to keep some for her own projects. Just in case you thought I took it all, LOL. Thanks Nancy! Hope I helped clear your decks and make room for more.

Came home and decided to take a few minutes copying some recently found quotes into the quote box you see to the right of this. Went through previous posts and a couple emails and was almost to the end of it when suddenly – black screen, followed by small black kitten scurrying away from the surge strip… bad kitty for flipping the switch! Good mac though for having all but the last pasted quote. phew!

Then I was curious as to how many quotes this had grown to. Finally figured out a way to count the separating returns and the answer was: 1523!

Sounds like the number of pieces in a quilt so I’m gonna get up there and start sewing. I have a few days off from work, timed perfectly to go with a new round of drugs to beat down this respiratory thing. Took the first prednisone this morning and I’m seeing a bit of twitchiness in my hands. Luckily machine sewing doesn’t care about that.

Also, I’m past the one stack of squares that got dropped and scrambled and there were only a couple things I had to move around on the fly to keep same from touching same fabric. So not so bad.

Why we’re here

My creed is that:
Happiness is the only good.
The place to be happy is here.
The time to be happy is now.
The way to be happy is to make others so.
