First Haiku of the Day

Oh wee small black cat
all tooths and claws and goofiness
sit not on MY mouse.

There are, dear readers, some truths in the world that are undeniable. Paul Simon album is worth waiting for and will make you think awhile. First cup of coffee, always the best. And then there be cats.

Cats as you know – born and bred natural killers. If you’re lucky and your cat got an advanced degree in lethal weapons and their effective use from Mother Cat, you are living with what we euphemistically call “a mouser”. We know this is really just a cute nickname but what can you do to explain why you live with something so efficient and ruthless in dispatching other beings?

Take all the mafia and gangster movies ever made and think about the most ruthless of them. Don’t they always show the deeply caring family guys, mushy over babies and goofy with children, protective and jovial with each other? Of course they do. And so big cats run away from the wee-est of small kittens and let them win at all games for awhile. And they roll over and let you admire their belly fur and scratch their so-vulnerable chin fur.

And they sit on your mouse. Or your keyboard if you fail to get that message.

My advice: never forget the tooths and claws, reader. Never forget them.

===================

and… if you want to know about making art and what’s it all about, it’s worth taking time to listen to folks like Paul Simon and to notice that he is always open to what’s around him, he takes cues from what comes his way, he continues to hone his craft in the service of his ideas and he continues to work.

National Poetry Month Day #11

Not Without Poetry prompt today. Wasn’t sure I’d be able to stay awake long enough to get something down. Needs a little tweaking, but here as a sign of good faith effort. And rats – just counted – 36 out of the “at least 40′ lines that NaPoWriMo asked for today – LOL guess my re-write could fix that, so I’m calling that good too.

=========================

“To love in spite of all is the secret of greatness
And may very well be the greatest secret in this universe”

Ducked my head
going through the ancient portal.
The first face
lined, thin, calm
peaceful eyes looked at me
into me
a brief smile, so small
then a silent pointing finger
go that way.
the next.
the next.
the next.
each quiet face looking up
then at me carefully
then pointing.
Down halls, around corners
up stairs, through catacombs.
So many turns for what seemed
so small before entering.
Then the face looked up and smiled
and pushed a dark wood door.
It opened into a room,
open to a cloistered garden.
Impossible but full of life,
sitting on the edge of shade and light.
At the small beckon of my guide
I entered, alone.
I felt I meant to bow slightly.
Perhaps I did. She nodded.
The ritual repeats.
I rest on the cool floor
at her gesture.
She gazes at the garden
and speaks.

And in the gnome haiku fields:

Under the red cap:
Some glue? Velcro? Pointy head?
What keeps gnome caps on?

Monday

I am pooped. Well-fed and watered but pooped. Long week last week, with a bit of double-candle-burning thrown in. Weird work hours this week and quilt deadline and tax deadline.

The good news is that I finished the quilting this morning before work. Got to work and was told that it was ok to take off early today to make up for the mandatory training yesterday that had me working 8:30-9:20. That was a little weird since once I finally got that news, fitting in a meal was sort of… well…

Came home had some dinner, up-loaded the two pictures that I tried to do earlier. Caught up on mail. Had a pimm’s. OK, maybe two. Then downloaded TurboTax and installed it. That was fast and easy. Too tired to do that tonight even though this should be a super easy year. Call me old-fashion but I think I prefer to have the software on my computer.

Going upstairs to think about my poetry daily now. More in awhile.

Tomorrow – prepare fabric for facings/sleeves. Get that onto quilt. Finish threads and clean up the front. Do the paperwork so to speak.

Wednesday – Molly goes to visit the vets for the day for her little operation. Just in the nick of time from what I can see. she’s not a howling yowling mess but she’s definitely hormonal. Photos maybe depending on how Tuesday goes.

Update

Quilting is done. Will have to clean and inspect and look for unquilted spots but it’s hanging on the wall looking surprisingly flat and good. I should be able to photo it hanging on the wall which will be a good thing! (I hear Marge nodding – vertical, not-all-squares, smaller – LOL) Photos here and here.
