Well go figure – from the Village of Nassau NY, to NPR, our local Made in America Store. Nice piece but I don’t remember that building being anything other than Millbrook Cabinet’s Showroom.

Another rainy wednesday

Took out the trash and recyclables in between downpours and did a bit of news and web reading. Had some coffee. Still laughing about yesterday’s funny encounter and enjoying emails about it. The cats have slinked away to start the next cycle of naps. They seldom laugh out loud but they seemed amused.

I think this is a good opportunity to take my book that I’m slowly working on and grab a bite to eat. There’s too much to think about in this slim book so I am finding that I read in small bits and then think and then go back, re-read, push on a bit etc.

Then I’d like to push a bit on the sewing of those long rows. There’s a new quilt forming on the horizon and a proposal to be written so I can ponder those while matching up all those seams.

Artsy Bollocks Generator

Many thanks to my friend and mentor Marge for providing a new way to generate those damned artist statements. LOL hate.them. Right now I’m pretty much all about writing haikus to take care of any and all explanatory text. I did write a pretty decent short statement for both Summer Seen From September, 2001 and 36 which will be opening at Sacred Threads this week.

The first bollocks, I mean statement, that I created went like this:

My work explores the relationship between postmodern discourse and urban spaces.

With influences as diverse as Blake and John Cage, new tensions are crafted from both simple and complex meanings.

Ever since I was a teenager I have been fascinated by the theoretical limits of the mind. What starts out as vision soon becomes corroded into a hegemony of power, leaving only a sense of what could have been and the prospect of a new understanding.

As spatial impressions become clarified through emergent and diverse practice, the viewer is left with a glimpse of the limits of our world.

Anything that uses Blake, John Cage, hegemony and emergent in a short span like that gets a thumbs up from me. And, something else to laugh about was fun too!

Extremely funny with a soupçon of creepiness

So you know you’ve had a good afternoon when a single funny weird little incident makes you laugh all the rest of the afternoon – like “why is she smiling ear to ear, all afternoon” sort of funny. I tell a few people at work about it and they laugh too. A lot. As in, laugh.a.lot.

As I’m leaving work, my car is too hot to get into and I notice my ex-Tripodian-manager is in AIM so I tell him about the funny and he laughs too and thanks me for the story because he’s watching his home town baseball team lose again and now, because of my weird funny little story, he’s smiling and laughing about the whole thing too.

It just doesn’t get much better than that. Spreading the joy and funniness of life.

The fact that I’m still smiling about the whole thing makes the soupçon of creepiness even tinier. That’s how funny the whole thing was. Funny beats creepiness any day, all ways, hands down. That’s how you know you’ve survived and lived to laugh about it all.
