Progress report

5 seams to go on this half, then a whole lot of ironing, then one more seam and a little ironing to join the two halves. I should be able to get that or most of it done tomorrow.

I confess to having some torn feelings about what to do: continue on with this quilt, started a year ago; start the next one that is mostly clear in my head; fiddle around working out some technical details towards the next and maybe next?

I am sticking with this one a bit more. It doesn’t have a show deadline, but rather a deadline, September 11th, in my heart.

Onwards.

The process pledge

I knew there were like-minded folks out there: The Process Pledge

I, __Mary Beth of Orientation::Quilter__, pledge to talk more about my processes, even when I can’t quite put them in the in words or be sure I’m being totally clear. I’m going to put my thinking and my gut feelings out there.

I hope I have done a bunch of this in the past, and pledge to do more of it in the future, along with some stuff that isn’t process-related.

Differences – all in the eye?

Robert Genn’s most recent email talked a bit more about the differences between men and women and linked to an online color test. I think I’d seen this before but I took it anyway. I didn’t labor over it but I got a really good score according to them. On the other hand, I found it just fascinating that my “off” choices were all in the blue-green range.

I have more blues and greens and blue-greens in my stash than anything else. Over-compensation? More choices = more chance to be right? A stash full of “not quite rights”?

I wonder about this and my tendency to put an “off-ness” into places where you might be expecting a smooth gradation. I feel I do this purposefully since I’m pretty sure I could make a smooth transition if I chose to. Pretty sure. LOL.

Anyway it was a fun thing to do before the coffee was ready. Maybe I could have gotten a better score if I’d gone after-coffee.

Things that make me grateful

just a little quiet shout out for people who are supportive and helpful in my moments of thinking and doubt or for no particular reason at all. I was thinking about something re my work this past week, sent off an email with a bit of ramble about it and got back a nice reply with some supportive arguments as to why I’m doing just fine and keep on doing what I’m doing.

You know how it is – you think that most of the time but then every once in a while you think: what the heck am I doing here?

The other nice thing was I’d brought that little strip of triangles to work to show Holly and the whole back of house crew was very interested in it and looked at it carefully and said all kinds of things about what they’d thought upon seeing the photo and now seeing it in person.

So there’s something to be said for not staying in your cave all the time, LOL. Sometimes talking with other people about what you’re doing gives you just the bit of reinforcement you need to keep going.
