Last night’s progress

Last night, with a bit of a tear, some sighs and a smile or two, I finished The Neverending Story. Such a good read. Yes meant for younger eyes but the story is beautiful and classic and the world is just wondrous. I really was not sure how it would end and was gladdened by the whole march up to the end so it wouldn’t have mattered what the exact details were.

Then I peeked inside If on a winter’s night a traveler home of some of the longest and most wonderful sentences on paper. It was late and I wasn’t very dedicated to making a lot of progress but I did get a bit into it. Stay tuned.

Today? Wash and cooking and more cooking and who knows, maybe a little more wrapping. We’ll see. Right now: another cuppa coffee and looks like the water’s boiling for noodles.

Jane at Thom’s in Nassau has me convinced that the whole uncooked noodles thing will work for lasagna but I’m not about to do that for the pan I’m bringing somewhere. I’ll do that with an extra pan and see how it turns out just to convince myself totally first. I never have problems doing the noodles anyway – very al dente and then stopped cooking in cold water. But it would speed up the process if it works. I guess stay tuned for that too. Jane says they make their own lasagna that way for the restaurant so I am going to try it, based on that. Their lasagna is good (not as good as mine but mainly because I like my sauce better.)

Finding those like-hearted souls

My long-time blog-pal Sandra Donabed posted this totally awesome looking cake found on a Polish website. The recipe looks do-able even given the glitches of google translation so I might have to try it someday. But not only was there a thoughtful link on the site to provide translation, but a quote box! With this gem:

“Find something you are passionate about and keep tremendously interested in it.”

-Julia Child

How fabulous is that?

There are a lot of yummy looking recipes over there, including this one for a white fruitcake with a glaze and decorated top!

In the neighborhood, FIAT edition

Went out and around today, getting this and that. Have to say the best part of the day though was coming out to my car at the Tru-Value Hardware store at 4 and 9&20. In the back of the car was a huge box, warranting having both rear seats down, and things were a bit disheveled in the front seat too. I opened the car with my über-fob and then a little car pulled up on the other side of my car and the driver gave me a friendly little wave through his open window.

“What is this?” the biker-dude-driver asked pointing at my car.

“It’s a 2012 FIAT,” I replied, going around to their side of the car and patting the little argento jellybean.

“Whoa – really new!” he said. “And what kind of mileage?”

“About 40, but I’m still adjusting to the different new clutch.”

This made his face all kinds of astonished.

“What’s it, start around twenty?”

“Oh no – they start around fifteen something”

“And who around here sells FIATs?

“Armory, over in Albany.”

“Whoa. Thank you so much!”

“You’re welcome – they’re fun to drive.”

All the while a multiple-lip-and-other-wise-pierced younger being looked on with amazement from the passenger seat.

And that, my friends, is what the holiday spirit is all about!

All I got was a USB drive (for tracking fuel economy) with Eco-drive

Half done

Top half piecing is done. The rest might have to wait a bit. I think the photos are more contrasty than real life; I’ll have to try the other camera and see what happens.
