#10

Put in #10 and wound 11, 12, and 13.

Listened to the new playlist enough to think “again? playing that again?” so I’ve switched to my alphabetical list of English Country Dance which randomized is like a challenging round of “I can name that dance in x number of measures” sometimes it’s “the dance starts with…” or “I think this has a star round here or a skipping double figure eight” etc.

It intrigues me that I can often relate a tune to some place where I did that dance. It amazes me that I remember any of it at all.

In other news I actually cracked open the ol’ moleskine tonight and wrote stuff down in so I wouldn’t lose what I was thinking about the past couple days. So that’s a good thing.

Fudging that a little bit because the previous bobbin and this one counted as one.

Robert Frost

It was hard not to think about Robert Frost today what with all that ice hanging down on all those trees. It’s not every day that Birches is just the right thing to recite.

As I drove towards Vermont I thought about Frost and his life among these beautiful ranges of the Green Mountains. The view driving up along Rt 22 isn’t so bad either. But, up in the Greens, the peaks rolled on and on, each with its dusting of snow.

On the way back I gave a tip of the hat and a little wave as I went by the cemetery where Frost is buried. I forget why he ended up buried there and not closer to other places he’d lived but it makes it easy to visit him.

I wasn’t at all surprised when this turned up in the quote box tonight:

I shall be telling this with a sigh
Somewhere ages and ages hence:
Two roads diverged in a wood, and I—
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference.

Road trip

Decided this morning to put up a couple small bird feeders to give the cats something to do while being picturesque for the catcam. The little birdies have already found it even though I’ve never had a bird feeder in that area.

After I got that set up, I took myself up the road to Vermont. Love the new roads they put in – pretty impressive stuff. Many of the top ridges were being snowed on and many had quite a substantial amount of ice on them. I made my two stops and filled the car up for twenty cents less per gallon. Saw it as low as 3.71 at the stewarts in Bennington. Mileage for filling it up in Bennington and going up the mountain, down, up and down again to home was 43 mpg pulling into the driveway. Not bad considering the first bit of driving was in the 28’s due to the uphill nature of the road.

Stopped at a place I’d always wanted to go into but never had had the opportunity – John McLeod/Vermont Bowl Company. Beautiful stuff.

Stopped at the Norton House quilt shop where I got to see the watermark on the windows about 10″ from the ceiling. They’d moved most of their fabric to the attic the day before Irene hit, but still lost all their 30’s and flannels the clerk said because they put them about five feet up and that wasn’t enough. They have many new counters and shelves, new wiring, insulation and heating system. She said many volunteers came in to shovel out all the mud and muck. She allowed as if they had lost most of their fabric they may not have reopened and that they were still fighting with the insurance company. Amazing.

On the way back, coming into downtown North Petersberg I looked up and saw not one, but two bald eagles overhead. I made a quick u-ey and sat and watched them for a few minutes. So unmistakable and SO very large.
