Decided this morning to put up a couple small bird feeders to give the cats something to do while being picturesque for the catcam. The little birdies have already found it even though I’ve never had a bird feeder in that area.
After I got that set up, I took myself up the road to Vermont. Love the new roads they put in – pretty impressive stuff. Many of the top ridges were being snowed on and many had quite a substantial amount of ice on them. I made my two stops and filled the car up for twenty cents less per gallon. Saw it as low as 3.71 at the stewarts in Bennington. Mileage for filling it up in Bennington and going up the mountain, down, up and down again to home was 43 mpg pulling into the driveway. Not bad considering the first bit of driving was in the 28’s due to the uphill nature of the road.
Stopped at a place I’d always wanted to go into but never had had the opportunity – John McLeod/Vermont Bowl Company. Beautiful stuff.
Stopped at the Norton House quilt shop where I got to see the watermark on the windows about 10″ from the ceiling. They’d moved most of their fabric to the attic the day before Irene hit, but still lost all their 30’s and flannels the clerk said because they put them about five feet up and that wasn’t enough. They have many new counters and shelves, new wiring, insulation and heating system. She said many volunteers came in to shovel out all the mud and muck. She allowed as if they had lost most of their fabric they may not have reopened and that they were still fighting with the insurance company. Amazing.
On the way back, coming into downtown North Petersberg I looked up and saw not one, but two bald eagles overhead. I made a quick u-ey and sat and watched them for a few minutes. So unmistakable and SO very large.
Excited for you.
